Information on the historic Quinn’s Lighthouse and Pub:
The nearby Quinn’s Lighthouse and Pub is a definite must see. The structure dates back to 1890 and was re-established in 1984. The original structure was recently moved into the Marina and great care has been taken to preserve its natural charm.
The original owner, Richard Turner Quinn was born in 1857 and he is renowned for defeating pirates off the coast of Oakland. Although his parents wanted him to be a sailor, he ended up being a writer. When he arrived in America, customs misheard him and thought he was a fighter, sending him to Oakland to battle the pirates that were marauding the coast. Against all odds, he managed to lead his band of men into victory.
He later volunteered to man the lighthouse that was erected on the site of the famous battle. He stayed for forty years and many claim that even today his ghost can be spotted watching out for ships in the marina.
