Martin Luther King Regional Shoreline

  • Exposure: The exposure on this trail is full sun with very few areas of shade as you go along.
  • Traffic: The traffic on this trail is moderate, though it is lighter on some days than others.
  • Trail Surface: The trail surfaces here are mostly paved in the sidewalk style, but there is a shore boardwalk segment as well.
  • Walk Time: The average walking time for this hike is less than an hour.
  • Season: This particular hike is nice all throughout the year and is perfect for any reason.
  • Trailhead Coordinates: This trailhead is located at 37°44'31.53"N Latitude and 122°12'32.20"W Longitude.

Amenities: There are plenty of amenities provided on Hegenberger before you reach the trailhead, including stores, restaurants, lodging and pay phones. There is no camping provided at the trailhead or around the park so other lodging arrangements will need to be made.

Rules: All of the trails here are multi use trails so you will often find skaters, bicyclists and equestrians here as well as hikers. Dogs are permitted on the trails, but near the marsh area they need to be leashed because of the wildlife in the area.

Accommodations: There is plenty of parking within a paved lot area. You can find a map under glass, restrooms and drinking water at the beginning of the trailhead. There are a number of handicapped spots and there is wheelchair access available for these trails which are flat and paved.

Fees: There are no parking fees or entrance fees.

Public Transportation: There are a number of AC Transit Buses that run along this area at the perimeter of the shoreline. For more details, check out the area transit website.

How to Get There: From the Interstate 880 located in Alameda County, you should exit at #36 which is Hegenberger. Now drive westbound on Hegenberger for approximately 1 mile before turning right upon reaching Doolittle. Now drive northbound on Doolittle for approximately 0.3 miles before turning right onto Swan Way. Nearly immediately you will want to turn left into the park area. Drive on the park's road for approximately 0.8 mile until you reach the parking lot waiting at the end of the road.
