Bad Day of Work = Time to go Striper Fishing
By Kelly MacCormack
Just wanted to share a little fish story to everyone! So I had a wicked bad day at work (you know the type of day I am talking about....the first day back to hell after a nice sunny vacation!!!) So on my ride home I thought... hmmmm who would want to fish??!!
I jumped on the phone to my brother Mike (founder of this group) and didn't hear back from him, so I called the boyfriend to see what he had planned ( watching the home run derby.....not a bad second choice of activities but fishing is way better). So anyways I make plans to see him, then Mike calls....he's ready to head out the door immediately to hit a hot spot for stripers. So I call the boyfriend back and blow off our plans together....I had to, fishing comes first.
Mike and I head out, a 15 minute drive to walk a mile down the tracks (mind you we didn't know when the next train was) in the heat...I was starting to think that the home run derby was a better idea.
Well we arrive at the "hot spot" and toss out some fresh Macs from Mike's earlier fishing adventure. Not 6 minutes later, my rod goes off. I knew then that the night would be fun! I land about a 20-24 inch fish, not bad....he put up a cute fight.
Then 15 minutes later WHAM my rod goes off again, this time the fish is screwing up the channel and I am fighting to hang on. Mike is walking me through things making sure the tip is up and I let the fish run. After a good 15/20 minute fight I see a shadow in the water, its my fish! Mike jumped in the water (shoes and all) to grab up the fish. We tape it to find that it was 41 inches long. By far the biggest fish I have ever caught. I landed a 38 last year and set my goal this year for over 40.
Thanks entirely to Mike, any advice that Mike has given to me has put me on the fish, and I am saying that because he's my brother, I am saying it because he is one hell of a fisherman.
Thanks Mike for helping me reach my fish goal this year!!!
Your the BEST!
