Lake Sonoma is the #4 boat-in camping location in California according to Foghorn Outdoors California Recreational Lakes and Rivers: The Complete Guide to Boating, Fishing, and Water Sports (behind Tahoe, Shasta, and Bullards Bar). I recently went boat in camping at Lake Sonoma.
When we arrived we were told we had the place to ourselves (there was one other person camping legally on the lake). The park ranger recommended campground Black Mountain #5. There are a number of no wake zones including from the boat launch to past the marina. Here are a few shots heading from the boat launch, under the bridge, past the marina, on the way to the campground.

Here are some pictures of our spectacular campground Black Mountain #5. Each campground comes with a picnic table and fire pit. Our campground was on a little peninsula... Awesome.

We did some fishing around our campground and caught a number of blue gill. Strictly catch and release. Finally I would like to leave with this parting shot of sunrise the morning we left...
