Book Review: Outdoor Survival By Garth Hattingh

The author of this book is one of the most respected outdoor enthusiasts, experts and authors and this latest effort is truly spectacular. If you are planning on doing anything outdoors, whether it's boating, fishing, camping or hiking, this is the book that you need to read before you go and it wouldn't hurt to take it with you either. There are some amazing life saving tips contained in these pages and it is well worth the money.

The first chapter covers the absolute essentials that you need to survive and even better, how to avoid these disasters. It's a short chapter, but it is packed to the gills with tips you can put to good use right away. We learned a lot right off the bat, and it just keeps getting better. The second chapter is a virtual go-to guide for what survival gear you need to have before you head out and once again, this is real life saving information.

We really enjoyed the third chapter, which covered how to make decisions on whether you need to stay where you are, or whether you need to get help. This is a situation that is not easy and these tips will help you develop an action plan before you ever walk out your front door. Don't miss chapter four which integrates well with this one and covers how to communicate with rescue personal and others that may be in the area with you.

We also got a lot out of chapters five and six, which cover prioritizing and first aid respectively. This is the perfect book to take with you and even if it does make your pack a little heavier, you'll have everything you could ever need with you, tucked into these pages. The last chapter is a goldmine of information on how to survive natural disasters and it's incredibly helpful, even for those that don't like the great outdoors.

By far, this is one of the best survival books we've come across in a very long time. It's packed to the gills with high quality information you can really use and the author did a great job of keeping it pithy, interesting and still incredibly informative. We highly recommend that anyone who will be adventuring in the great outdoors read this book - you'll be glad that you did. The truth is, you never know when you may be called upon to survive by your wits. They'll be a lot more enriched and ready to handle anything if you've already read this book before heading out.

Ideal for the beginning outdoorsmen, suitable for experts and a great gift for anyone that likes to go off the beaten path. It doesn't get much better than this and we literally are going to purchase this for everyone we know that appreciates the outdoors. Buy a few copies and hand them out - you may just save a life by doing so.
