About the Lake:

This gorgeous lake covers 4700 acres and is located near Nevada City. The North Yuba butts up against the lake and this is considered to be one of the tallest dams in California. The lake is more than 16 miles long and the dam itself is reason enough to visit.

Boat Launches:

Emerald Cove Resort & Marina

Near the dam on the south end of the lake just off Marysville Rd.

Launch ramp, no fee.

Dark Day Boat Ramp

On east side of lake, Hwy. 49 to Marysville Rd.

Launch ramp, no fee, picnic area nearby.

Camping:

Is Camping Allowed? Yes, camping is allowed at the following sites:

Hornswoggle Group Campground

On Marysville Rd., off of Hwy. 49, on east side of lake.

Schoolhouse Family Campground

On Marysville Rd., off of Hwy. 49, on east side of lake.

Dark Day Campground

On Marysville Rd., off of Hwy. 49, on east side of lake.

Garden Point Boat Campground

In the center of the lake on the tip of the Garden Point Peninsula.

Boat access only

Madrone Cove Boat Campground

North end of the lake up in the North Yuba River Arm.

Boat access only

Frenchy Point Boat Campground

North end of the lake up in the North Yuba River Arm.

Boat access only

Shoreline Camping

Any shore around the lake.

Boating Restrictions:

Please make sure that all boats follow state and federal regulations.

Fishing:

What kind of fish can be found at the lake? Numerous fish can be found in the lake including trout, crappie, bass, salmon and other small varieties of fish. 

Are there any regulations on fishing? Yes, according to the park service:

Trout & salmon: Open season all year. Limit: five

Bass: Open season all year. Limit: five bass. Minimum length: twelve inches.

Crappie: Open season all year. Limit: twenty-five

Other species: Other species of fish may be taken in any number and at any time of the year by angling.

Special Notes:

Please note that some camping areas may have fees. Please contact the lake management for more information. If you are found camping in an area without the proper permits, you will be cited by the National Forest Service. Many of the campgrounds are boat access only, so please bring all necessary camping equipment on your boat. None of the campgrounds are public access, and require proper registration before you can be allowed to stay, even if it is temporary.

All campers must make reservations. Please note that there is a two night minimum for all campers. Please keep an eye out for floating debris in the lake during the months when run off is at its highest point.

There is also a full service marina with boat rentals! I was down there a couple of days ago and saw they’re houseboats. Talk about living the sweet life! They have queen beds and hot tubs! I booked a week this summer.
