<p>Lake Sonoma is the #4 boat-in camping location in California according to <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1566916569?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=sfboater-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=1566916569">Foghorn Outdoors California Recreational Lakes and Rivers: The Complete Guide to Boating, Fishing, and Water Sports</a><img border="0" width="1" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=sfboater-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=1566916569" height="1" style="margin: 0px; border: medium none" /> (behind Tahoe, Shasta, and Bullards Bar).  I recently went boat in camping at Lake Sonoma.</p>
<p>When we arrived we were told we had the place to ourselves (there was one other person camping legally on the lake).  The park ranger recommended campground Black Mountain #5.  We paid our modest entry fee and we were on our way to the Public boat launch.  (USE THE PUBLIC BOAT LAUNCH, the private launch is in disrepair.) </p>
<p>Even though the marina boat launch is in disrepair the dock is very usable and the general store comes in handy for any items that were forgotten when packing.  The general store also sells basic fishing supplies and worms. </p>
<p>Here we are launch at the public boat ramp.<br />
<img src="http://www.sfboater.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/lakesonomapubliclaunch.jpg" alt="Lake Sonoma Public Boat Launch" /></p>
<p>There are a number of no wake zones including from the boat launch to past the marina.  Here are a few shots heading from the boat launch, under the bridge, past the marina, on the way to the campground.<br />
<img src="http://www.sfboater.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/lakesonomadam.jpg" alt="Lake Sonoma Dam" /><img src="http://www.sfboater.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/lakesonoma2.jpg" alt="Lake Sonoma 2" /></p>
<p>Here are some pictures of our spectacular campground Black Mountain #5.  Each campground comes with a picnic table and fire pit. Our campground was on a little peninsula...  Awesome.<br />
<img src="http://www.sfboater.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/lakesonomacampground11.jpg" alt="Lake Sonoma Campground 11" /><img src="http://www.sfboater.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/lakesonomacampground9.jpg" alt="Lake Sonoma Campground 9" /></p>
<p>We did some fishing around our campground and caught a number of blue gill. Strictly catch and release.  Finally I would like to leave with this parting shot of sunrise the morning we left...<br />
