Parking Fee: $5 per vehicle, $4 for trailered vehicles.
Are Dogs Allowed? Yes, dogs are allowed at Lake Chabot but there is a $2 per dog fee.
Boat Launch: There is no actual launch, but small boats can be easily put out to water. There is a $2 fee for car top canoes, kayaks or skull caps.
Types of Boats Allowed: Small watercraft are allowed on Lake Chabot. These include small inflatable boats, kayaks, skull craft and canoes. Please note that skull craft must be shorter than 20 feet. Regular boats or personal watercraft are not allowed on the lake.
Restrictions: There are some fishing restrictions that should be noted. According to management: "Fishing at Lake Chabot requires a current California Fishing License with stamps and an EBRPD Daily Fishing Access Permit for all anglers aged 16 and older. California Fish and Game regulations apply. Fishing licenses and EBRPD permits may be purchased at the Marina Cafe. No live fish may be used as bait. All other legal bait and lures are permitted. Fish may be cleaned only at the cleaning station along the walk near the parking lot. Catch-and-release angling is encouraged for bass, bluegill, and crappie. However, the release of badly hooked game fish and all non-game fish is not allowed. Please bring any unwanted and tagged fish and your completed creel census card (on back of fishing permit) to the Chabot Marina."
About the Park: The lake is 315 acres and is incredibly well stocked. Boat rentals are available if you do not have your own vessel. Swimming is not allowed at Lake Chabot, but there are numerous areas for picnicking and other family activities. The lake does serve as a standby water source, so some restrictions are in place about showering and coming into contact with the water. There are numerous hiking and bike trails all throughout the park. There is a Marina Café as well as a bait and tackle shop. The Chabot Queen tour boat is a very popular feature that allows you to get a view of the entire lake. Seasonal tours are available, please contact Lake Chabot management's for more information and exact dates.
How to Get There: The park management states: "In Castro Valley on I-580 westbound, take the Strobridge Avenue exit. Turn right on Strobridge, right on Castro Valley Boulevard, and left on Lake Chabot Road. The Lake Chabot Marina is about two miles ahead on the right. In Castro Valley on I-580 eastbound, exit at Redwood Road and go left, go left at Castro Valley Boulevard, right at Lake Chabot Road, and follow the directions above. From I-580 in San Leandro, exit at Fairmont Drive and go east (uphill). The marina entrance will be to the left at the bottom of the hill. (parking fee)."
