About the Lake:
This is actually a system of lakes and creeks and it is an incredible place to visit. We were in awe of the sheer beauty in the area, the quality of the campsites and just how many places there were to fish and have fun. This is definitely a place to bring your own boat, but they do offer rentals if you prefer not to.

Boating Restrictions:
All boats must be operated under state regulations and owners must have proper registration and licensing.
Fishing:
This area is all about trout and you won't believe the size of the fish in these lakes. They are worth the trip on their own, regardless of how gorgeous the area is. Browns in excess of 15 pounds are quite common and you'll also find plenty of brookies and even the very special golden trout.
We really hoped to be able to land a golden, since they are so rare and hard to catch, but unfortunately it wasn't to be. We did however manage to get some monster browns and had a lot of fun trying. We highly recommend bringing some fly fishing gear with you for a whole new experience.
Fishing Regulations:
You must have your California fishing license and they do have daily limits that must be observed. The lake management specifically states:
SEASON: The last Saturday in April through November 15.
BAG LIMIT: 5 per day, 10 in possession
Sierra District Regulations
(b) 9. In the Sierra District south of Interstate 80, up to 10 brook trout per day less than 10 inches total length may be taken and possessed in addition to the other daily bag and possession limits specified for the Sierra District. This allowance does not include Red Lake in Alpine County or Kirman, Lane, or Roosevelt Lakes in Mono County.
3.00. Fishing Hours.
(a) Day Defined: One hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset. Remaining hours are night.
(b) All fish may be taken day or night, except as follows:
(1) WATERS WITH RESTRICTED FISHING HOURS FOR ALL SPECIES:
(C) Mono County: Night fishing is prohibited in all Mono County waters except Topaz Lake, where fishing is prohibited from two hours after sunset to one hour before sunrise. Rock Creek Lake is in Inyo County and can be fished 24/7 during the fishing season.
