Regulations:
According to Lake Shasta Officials, "All vessels must be registered and numbered except boats propelled manually, sail boats eight feet or less in length without other means of propulsion, and certain public vessels. Out of state registration is valid for 90 days. In addition, some boats, such as houseboats, require a Forest Service permit to be on the lake in excess of 30 days per calendar year. This restriction applies primarily to boats equipped for overnight use. Contact the Shasta Lake District Office or the Shasta-Trinity National Forest Supervisor's Office during business hours for more information on this subject."

Boat Ramps and Directions according to Lake Shasta officials:
Antlers On the upper Sacramento River Arm adjacent to Antlers Campground. Picnicking, restrooms, fee. Exit I-5 at Antlers Road. 1/2 mile.
Bailey Cove On the lower McCloud River Arm in Bailey Cove Campground area. Picnicking, restrooms, fee. (Not recommended on summer weekends due to excessive congestion, consider using Packers Bay.) Exit I-5 at O'Brien, take Shasta Caverns Road 1 mile to Bailey Cove Road.
Centimudi Near Shasta Dam, northwest of Shasta Lake City. Restrooms, fee, picnicking nearby. (Not recommended on holiday weekends due to excessive congestion, consider using Packers Bay.) Exit I-5 at Lake Boulevard or Shasta Lake City on Shasta Dam Boulevard, take Lake or Shasta Dam Boulevard to Summit City.
Hirz Bay On the Upper McCloud River Arm adjacent to Hirz Bay Campground. Restrooms, fee. Exit I-5 at Gilman Road, 10 miles to Hirz Bay.
Jones Valley - On the Pit River Arm at its confluence with the Squaw Valley Creek Arm near the Jones Valley Campground. Restrooms, fee. Exit at Oasis Road or Mountain Gate then east to Bear Mountain Road, 9 miles. (Not recommended on holidays or summer weekends due to congestion.)
Packers Bay- On the Lower Pit River Arm adjacent to the Packers Bay Marina. Picnicking, restrooms, fee. Northbound traffic exit at O'Brien and join southbound 1-5 traffic. Exit at Packers Bay Road, 1 mile.
Sugarloaf - On the Upper Sacramento River Arm in the Sugarloaf area of Lakehead. Fee. Services nearby. Exit I-5 at Lakeshore Drive, left 2 miles.

If you do not have your own vessel, there are numerous places around the lake where you can rent a boat. Please visit http://www.shastalake.com/ for more information.

What you need to know:
If you do plan on camping here it is best to call ahead to make a reservation. The marina can get quite busy at peak periods. They are conveniently located near several stores so if you can't find what you need at the marina, you're just a short walk away from several grocery stores and restaurants.
In addition to the above mentioned services, the marina just introduced their new Aqua Lounges. If you were disappointed about not being able to camp on board, this may be the perfect solution. They state: "The Aqua Lodges eleven foot ceilings provide a feeling of spaciousness. A full size refrigerator, sink, microwave and cook-top stove makes cooking easy. It has a comfortably sized bathroom with a full size shower. The Master Bedroom has a queen sized bed, closet storage and a patio door leading to a private deck. Smaller houseboats available are particularly comfortable for the fisherman who just needs a place to bunk close to fishing tournaments here in the central Delta, at Bethel Island, California." About the Lake:
One of the most interesting facts about Berryessa Lake is that it contains more shoreline than Lake Tahoe. The lake has a surface acreage of 17,000 and there are 165 miles of shoreline. This is considered one of the best lakes for boating and fishing in California, and although the levels of mercury are high and some fish are unsuitable for human consumption, the lake remains one of the most popular in the area.
Please note that the north end of the lake has a tendency to be a bit shallow, and the entire eastern shoreline is off limits to visitors. The southern area of the lake is much deeper and offers beautiful views of the numerous trees and incredible vistas.

Please make sure that all boats are operating under proper state and federal regulations. The maximum depth of the lake is 275 feet, but please be advised that the north end is very shallow.
What kind of fish can be found at the lake? Numerous species of fish can be found here, including salmon, trout and catfish.
Are there any regulations on fishing? Yes, according to lake officials:
Trout & salmon: Open season all year. Limit: five
Bass: Open season all year. Limit: five bass. Minimum length: twelve inches.
Catfish: Open season all year. Limit: twenty (except Bullheads no limit.)
Crappie: Open season all year. Limit: twenty-five
Other species: Other species of fish may be taken in any number and at any time of the year by angling.
Special Notes: Due to high mercury levels in the water, the lake has advised caution if you plan to eat the fish caught in this lake. Please note that on shore fishing on the eastern side of the lake is prohibited.

About Lake Tahoe: The original name of Lake Tahoe was "Dao w a ga," as assigned by its native peoples. It is estimated that the lake holds 39 trillion gallons of water and it is the second deepest lake in the United States with a depth of more than 1600 feet.
