Mitchell Canyon Eagle Peak

You will enjoy views of the park before continuing downhill along a steep grade to finish up the loop back to the trailhead.

  • Season: This particular trail is generally too hot during the summer months, and therefore is best during the late winter as well as the early spring.
  • Trailhead Coordinates: This trailhead can be found at 37°55'14.01"N Latitude and 121°56'29.38"W Longitude.

Amenities: Gas, restaurants and stores can be found back in Danville near I-680. There are group campgrounds as well as individual camping sites available at this trailhead.

Rules: There are no bikes or dogs allowed here at the trailhead. While horses are permitted technically, you are not likely to encounter any here. The park is open between 8 o'clock am and approximately 45 minutes before the sun goes down.

Fees: There is a $6 dollar entrance fee for this trailhead.

Map: A good map for getting to this region is the AAA San Francisco Bay Region map.

Accommodations: There are handicapped parking spots near the trailhead, and some of the trail is suitable for wheelchair use as well. There is plenty of parking at and around the trailhead. Trail brochures are available at the beginning of the trailhead.

Public Transportation: No, there is no direct public transportation that will bring you to this trailhead.

How to Get There: From Alameda County's I-580 you are going to want to take exit no. 19b onto the CA 24 highway. Now drive eastbound for approximately 12 miles until you reach the I-680 split, and then take exit no. 46b, which is the exit for Ygnacio Valley Road. Now travel eastbound for approximately 8 miles and then take a right turn onto Clayton Road before driving southbound for 1 mile and turning right onto the Mitchell Canyon Road. Finally, continue on to the trailhead which is about 1.5 miles forward at the end of the road.

Notes: The park roads here are prone to giving people carsickness. People that are prone to carsickness should drive very slowly here, never going faster than 20 miles per hour.
