Boat Launch Fee: $4 for trailered boats, $2 for inflatables and $1 for boards
Types of Boats Allowed: All boats may use the launch, but personal watercraft are not allowed on the lake.
Restrictions: All boats must be out of the lake 1 hour before closing. Motor boats are allowed, but they are not permitted to go faster than 10mph. The lake management also specifies, "Boats, operators, and passengers must meet and observe all applicable Coast Guard, State, and Federal safety requirements (including having approved life vests for each boat occupant, operable fire extinguisher on board, and observing alcohol restrictions, which are the same as with automobiles)." There are two local dealers where you can rent boats if you do not have your own vessel. Please note that there is a $50 charge for all capsized boats.
About the Lake: The entire lake is around 5 miles long and offers numerous opportunities for boating and fishing enthusiasts. The lake is stocked with catfish and trout, and you will also find large or smallmouth bass, striped bass, and panfish. The locals refer to it as an "Alpine Resort" 10 miles from Livermore. There is a visitor center on the west side of the lake that also features numerous activities for families. There are two swimming beaches at the lake that are staffed with lifeguards. Although year round swimming is allowed, swimmers are reminded that they swim at their own risk when either a lifeguard is not present, or they are not in the designated swimming area.
The lake is in the midst of more than 4,000 acres of the park facility. It is located at the Eastern Gateway to the Ohlone Wilderness and offers numerous activities for hiking, nature walks and other outdoor activities.
Is camping allowed? Yes, the park does allow campers. "The Del Valle Family Campground has 150 sites, 21 of them with water and sewage hookups (no electrical). The sites are served by centrally located toilet and shower facilities. For reservations, telephone 1-888-EBPARKS or 1-888-327-2757, press option 2, then 1, up to 12 weeks in advance. There are also several youth group campgrounds, available by reservation only. Telephone 1-888-EBPARKS or 1-888-327-2757, press option 2, then 1 for information."
How to Get There: According to park officials: "Del Valle Regional Park is located on Del Valle Road off Mines Road south of Livermore (parking fee). Exit I-580 eastbound or westbound in Livermore at North Livermore Avenue. Head south and proceed through town (North Livermore Avenue will become South Livermore Avenue in town). About 1.5 miles outside town, turn right at Mines Road, go about 3.5 miles and continue straight on Del Valle Road (Mines Road turns left). The park entrance is about four miles ahead."
