Ellis Boats was founded in the early 1900s, because fishing and captaining boats along the coast of Maine during this period of time was quite popular, especially in the summer. Ralph Ellis made his living fishing and captaining before he began building his own custom boats. Ralph's life turned around when he met a friend that wanted to build a boat but did not have the space. Ralph had the space, but no knowledge about building a boat. They combined Raymond Bunker's boat building know-how with Ralph Ellis' workshop space, and a partnership was culminated that lasted for more than 30 years.
