This last weekend, Friday the 24th and Saturday the 25th of October, Festival Center teamed up with the Island Global Yachting (IGY) to host the first annual Dubai Boating Festival in the Festival Marina. The Festival offered a two day schedule full of action for all ages and levels of interest in order to celebrate the strong maritime heritage that is associated with Dubai's history.
There was a wide range of different activities and spectacles to enjoy and watch, including dragon boats, demonstrations of traditional boat building, yacht boat displays, trailer boat displays, kite surfing and much more. There was also plenty of activities designed for the enjoyment of families, including model boat building, kids activities and fire fighting vessel displays as well.
People there that were looking for a way to boost adrenaline enjoyed the bungee jump that was offered in front of the Intercontinental Hotel Dubai Festival City. Others looking for some excellent air time chartered helicopter trips. There were plenty of ways to experience the Dubai inaugural boating festival from the air or the ground.
The Dubai Boating Festival hosted two different unique boat races which should absolutely not have been missed. The second annual Floating Wheelchair Race was held in the Festival Center's Canal on Friday at 15:00. This race was aimed at raising awareness for children that are dealing with special needs. On Saturday beginning at 14:00 there were qualifying heats for the bottle boat race known as "Whatever Floats your Boat" bottle boat race. This bottle boat race was designed in order to raise the awareness of how important it is to recycle. It involved teams of four that competed against one another in order to build and race a boat made completely out of empty plastic bottles and other materials that are recyclable that would still be sturdy enough to take their weight.
For those who were interested in purchasing vessels that were a little more conventional and perhaps a little more seaworthy as well, there were over 30 yachts and boats on display, ranging significantly from 18 feet to 100 feet in length. They included day boats, rigid inflatable boats, sports fishing boats and yachts and luxury yachts as well. There was also a wide variety of charter yachts made available for viewing for anyone who was interested in finding the perfect venue for business meetings, friends outings and corporate team building events.
