Fishing and Boating Lexicon Continued

DamselflyCurly Tail - This is a brand name for a variety of lures. Curly Tails are made out of a soft plastic and have curved tails.

Curly Tailed Grub - This is a type of bait made of soft plastic that is often paired with a jig head and has a tail with a curve to it.

Cutthroat Trout - A species of the salmonid family, the cutthroat trout is identifiable by a marking located under the throat that is shaped like a slash as is colored either orange or red.

Dabbing - Dabbing is a method for fishing near a bush or next to a tree or similar object. This is done by moving the bait down and up many, many times in the same place.

Damselfly - The damselfly is a smaller relative of the dragonfly.

Dapping - This is a fly-fishing technique where a high rod is used to dangle the leader and line so that the fly is able to make a dancing motion on the surface of the water.

Dardevle - This is the trademark for a variety of lures. The trademark covers a variety of spoons that are generally used to catch northern pike or trout.

Deadfall - This is the term in fishing that is used to refer to a fallen tree that lands in the water.

Deer-Hair Bug - This is a floating lure made for fly-rodding that is constructed out of deer hair that is hollow. These lures are generally used to catch panfish or bass.

Depth finder - This device is also known as a depth sounder or depth recorded. This is a device that utilizes sonar to determine the depth of a body of water and to examine the structure of the bottom of that body. Some of these devices are called fish finders and are actually capable of locating fish.

Devle Dog - This is another trademarked variety of fishing lure.

Desert Sucker - This is a variety of fish that can be found in streams and rivers in Arizona and weighs in at over four pounds when full grown.

Die-Off - This is also called a fish kill, and is an event in which a large number of fish die in a short period of time, bait fish are the most likely victims of a die-off.

Dillys - This is a name for a small variety of earthworms that are a popular choice to use to catch trout or sunfish.

Dink - Another term for subcatchable, this term is used in regards to a bass that is quite small, somewhere between six inches and eight inches in length.

Dip Bait - Mainly used to catch catfish, this bait is a paste with a very strong scent to it.

Dip Net - Used to catch baitfish, this is a handled net.

Disgorger - This is a tool that is used for extracting fishing hooks that are stuck deep inside a fish's throat.
