Bullet Sinker - This is a type of sinker that is free to move along the line, it is shaped like a cone and may be made of lead, steel, or zinc and comes in a variety of weights.
Buzz bait - This is a type of bait that stays towards the surface of the water, it is made up of a lead head, a hook followed by a wire that is attached to a number of blades that will churn up the water while the bait is being retrieved. This type of bait commonly contains a skirt that is made of plastic.
Buzzing - This is a method used during retrieval of a lure using either a buzz bait or a spinner bait. In order to imitate the way a wounded fish moves through the water the bait is retrieved across the surface of the water creating small splashes as it moves.
Caddis Fly - Along with the stone and mayflies, the caddis fly is one of the most important aquatic insects for fly fishing for trout. This is an insect that goes through a metamorphosis with the first stage known as a caddis worm. The caddis fly itself is recognized by its wings, which are swept back.
California Rig - This is a way of baiting a line for deep-water fishing. To make this rig, a leader is baited with a plastic worm, which then trails behind a weight.
Cane Pole - This refers to a fishing pole that is constructed out of cane from natural sources, often, bamboo is used. These poles are very simple and do not use a reel, the fishing line is simple tied to the end of the pole. This type of pole is very useful for fishing in very small and narrow creeks or streams. Cane-poling is the term for fishing using a pole of this type.
Car top - Also known as a car topper, this refers to small boats that are small enough that they can be transported on top of a car. These boats are small enough that they do not require any sort of special launching area and can simply be placed into the water by hand, making them invaluable at fisheries or other locations that do not have those facilities.
Carolina Rig - This is a method for rigging a lure that utilizes a hook that can be either hidden or exposed with a soft lure made of plastic. Two to three feet in front of the lure a sinker is placed on the line, using either a barrel or egg type along with a swivel. This rig is usually with weights that are heavier than the ones used in a Texas style rig for fishing deep waters. Generally the plastic bait used on this rig is either a lizard or a worm, but floating crank baits are an alternative and other lures will work with it as well.
