Fishing Report: August 27, 2010

Lakes/Saltwater:

Anderson:
You are going to have to get about 30 feet under water or further to be able to get a lot of the bass in the area. If you are looking for Bluegill, head out to the south end of the lake.

Berkeley: Strong location for rock cod and a somewhat decent location for salmon. Head to the area for some good salmon fishing, as compare to some of the other places they may be.

Berryessa: Head to the creek channels and the offshore structure to find the best Bass bite in the area. Most need to get about 30 feet deep or more.

Camanche: Bass fishing has been strong in the area, and trout fishing has been somewhat decent. Head toward the dam and toward Hat Island for the best trout fishing.

Capitola: Striped bass have been few and far between over the last week. Has been a decent location for perch and kingfish, but a somewhat disappointing location for halibut. Those looking for Albacore are going to want to head out to the weather buoy that is around 25 miles out.

Chabot: This has not been the best location for fishing this week, as there are few large fish in the area.

Calero: Frogs are managing to catch a somewhat decent bass bite in the area.

Chesbro: Also a somewhat weak location for any type of fishing this week.

Clear: Yet another in the string of locations that have seen weak fishing this week. Clear is best for those using drop shots, but even then the fish are barely biting.

Contra Loma: There is going to be a catfish plant within the next week, which should turn this into a decent catfish fishing area.

Coyote: This has been a great location for bass fishing this week. Those who are looking for some other catches in the area will be able to find some Bluegill and some Crappie.

Del Valle: Head to Heron Bay, Ghost Cove, and Swallow Bay to get the best striped bass fishing in the area. Catfish should be somewhat strong, as a plant of Catfish has gone in within the last week and a half. Catfish are being found at the South end and at the East Beach.

Emeryville: Arguable the best location for rock cod fishing over the last few weeks. Many boats are coming back with limits.

Loch Lomond: Bass fishing is not as good as it has been in the area, thanks to high heat levels. You are going to need to et deep if you want to get any of the bass in the area.

Monterey: Rock Cod is also strong in the area, with limits coming back on a regular basis.

Pacifica: Those who have been looking for a decent striped bass bite in the area have been out of luck. May want to skip out on this location for the next week.

Pardee: This is going to be a great location for those who are looking to get in some good trout fishing next week. There will be a plant of 1,000 pounds of trout.

Pillar Point: Rock Cod has been somewhat strong in the area, with some getting the limits they are looking for. Anyone looking for white sea bass will need to move on, as they are not at this location anymore.

Quarry Lakes: This location continues to baffle fishermen as plants of both trout and catfish have failed to bring about strong bites of either. Bass are becoming stronger in the area though, making it a somewhat decent fishing location.

San Francisco Bay: Halibut bite is somewhat strong to those who head out to the North Bar outside of the Golden Gate Bridge. Head to Red Rock for strong halibut and strong striped bass. Sharks, Perch, and Rays are found off of the Pier.

San Luis Reservoir:
Those who have been looking for a strong striper bite have been somewhat disappointed at best. The area is failing to produce a large amount of legal stripers. Head out there in the early morning if you are trying to catch a bite.

San Pablo Reservoir: Fishing should pick up in the area any day now, thanks to a huge catfish plant. The plant that went in was over 2,400 pounds of catfish. If you are looking for some small spotted bass, head to the rock wall.

Santa Cruz: Albacore has been in the area for those who manage to get 25 miles out. Most are going to be in the 20 to 30 pound range.

Shasta: Somewhat decent fishing spot over the last week, with some decent bass fishing and some somewhat decent trout fishing. Get to around 60 feet deep to get a good amount of trout in.

UVAS: Still a good location for those who are looking to get a good catfish bite. Head to the area at night if you are looking to get in some bass fishing.

Deltas:

Frank’s Tract: Black Bass have been somewhat strong in the area, although the fish that are coming out of the area have been somewhat small. Head to Washington Cut and False River if you are looking for a strong striped bass bite.

Rio Vista: Rio Vista Bridge and Decker Island are the two strongest locations in the area for those who are looking to pick up some Stripers.
