Although fishing has been light in many places throughout this past week, it's not stopping the die-hards from going after their chosen catch.
Lake Fishing -
In Amador, the weather has been relatively warm and the fishing pressure has been light. Some of the anglers are going after catfish as well as bass during the evening hours. Pressure is also light at Berryessa, but there are still plenty of die-hards seeking Kokanee, and you can find catfish out along the shorelines as well.
At Camanche, the best bet is going to be to go after catfish, but during the morning and the evening hours you may also be able to find a bass bite along the shoreline. Chabot is offering slow trout fishing, but the bass and catfish bite are fair, especially in the evening hours.
Clear has a decent offering of bass this week, as they're feeding on minnows primarily around the weed mats. If you are looking for top water action, come prepared with frogs and poppers and check out the weed mats. Contra Loma is offering plentiful catfish, especially near Channel Point. The crappie bite is also particularly good, primarily around Loma Island.
In Del Valle, anglers are continually kept busy with trout, striped bass and catfish fishing. Trout plants are continuing all through the summer, and the fishing is going to be best near the dam. The dam has been the best spot if you are looking for stripers and cats. In Lafayette, night crawlers and chicken livers are attracting a steady bite of catfish all throughout the lake. The last catfish plant of the season is going in this week. The bluegill and bass bite are both good near the L dock, but trout fishing has slowed down this week.
In Los Vaqueros, there is still a fair bite for trout, especially along the rock wall and the south cove. The bass bite on the other hand is a bit hit or miss. At New Melones, the catfish are especially active, and this is especially true during the night hours. The fishing for bluegill as well as crappie is fair, but primarily at night. The fishing for Kokanee is slow.
At the San Pablo Reservoir, the catfish are plentiful for anyone that comes with mackerel, chicken livers, anchovies or night crawlers. The bass bite is best if you bring Yamasenkos and fish along the shoreline. At Shadow Cliffs, a small catfish plant is going in during this week. The bass fishing is also relatively fair.
At Trinity and Lewiston, you will find the atmosphere to be more like a private pond now that school is back in session. Tube baits and Senkos sunk in 20 feet to 25 feet are going to get a good bass catch. The lake level dropped a bit earlier this week as a result of a large release worth of water. At Quarry Lakes, a catfish plant is about to go in, and next week there will be a trout plant of around 75 pounds.
River Fishing -
At Klamath, the steelhead and the jack salmon are beginning to enter into the lower river. There are also the occasional adult king that are being caught. At Trinity, fishing has been slow as fishermen wait for the next salmon run which has yet to begin.
Delta Fishing -
At Frank's Tract, the striped bass are just beginning to trickle in this week. Most of them are small, but the best time for you to fish is right before the dark. The bite for black bass is currently slow here. At Rio Vista, you can troll for striped bass along Decker Island if you get down around 20 feet. Good spots for you to catch legal stripers include Sherman Island, San Joaquin and Three Mile. The fishing for sturgeon is also decent this week. At Tracy, the fishing for striped bass is definitely improving, but sub-legal fish are making up much of the bite. The anglers catching black bass are bringing up fish at about the 2 lb to 3 lb range.
Saltwater Fishing -
In Berkeley and Emeryville, the potluck boats have been able to average about a halibut for each rod, with the occasional rock fish in the mix. Rock cod boats have been going out to the Farallones to bring back limits of fish with a few extra lings mixed in. In Pacifica, there was a flurry of action for striped bass that hit the pier during the evening on Tuesday. Seven of them were landed, but then things seemed to go quiet. There are a lot of anchovies and mackerel in the water, but the fishing for Perch has been slow.
Rock cod limits are being obtained fairly quickly at Pillar Point, at least among the local boats that head south away from the harbor. You may also find lings in the mix, here. In the San Francisco Bay, big tides have been slowing fishing somewhat, but the tides are finally starting to slow down and the Perch and the sharks are much more plentiful now, especially around the area of Oyster Point Pier.
San Pablo Bay's fishing was poor over the weekend as a result of winds. The halibut fishing has slowed. The best places for you to explore this week appear to be Southampton, Angel Island and Paradise. Shore anglers that come with bullhead from China Camp have been doing a good job at catching legal stripers. Suisun Bay also experienced windy weather, keeping the boats in the harbor for a while. The best bet so far this week has been to fish from the piers in search of striped bass. Shrimp bait has been relatively hard to come by, so don't be afraid to try bullhead or frozen anchovies if you need.
