Fishing Report: July 30, 2010

Lakes/Saltwater

Almanor: Salmon fishing is somewhat strong in the area, making it a great location for the next week.

Berkely: Rock fishing is still great in the area, but halibut has been slow at best.

Berryessa: Surface bite has been getting better in both the morning and the evening. If you want to find strong fishing look to the west shore, the main body, the east shore, and the big island. Points and rock piles are getting strong bite as well.

Bodega Bay: Salmon is strong between Elephant Rock and Bird Rock.

Camanche: Strong catfish in the area, to those who stay by the Coyote Flat. Bass are generally found near any of the steep drop offs in the area.

Chabot: Morning fishing has been somewhat slow at best. Catfish are being caught in the evening.

Clear: The south end of the lake is getting worse, making it a difficult place to fish. Crappie, catfish, and bass can be found in any clear-water areas that fisherman can find. Bass bite is strong at the Clear Lakes Oaks Arm.

Collins Lake: Catfish are somewhat common, even at bigger weights and sizes. Over 10 pound catfish have been found in the area. Use nightcrawlers at 25 feet to catch trout in the area.

Del Valle: Has been a strong fishing location over the last week. Striped bass and catfish are being caught on a regular basis. Black-bass has been somewhat decent as well.

Emeryville: Rock-cod has been bringing in limits. Ling Cod is getting stronger in the area as well. Halibut has been weak in the area.

Folsom: Small fish are being found in the area, even though the water keeps dropping in level. Rock piles and breaks are the areas with the better fish and the better bite.

Lafayette: Catfish found at the east cove. Use night crawlers and chicken livers. Go to the docks if you are looking for a strong bluegill and crappie bite. Bass fishing has been slow at best. Catfish looks to be strong in the weeks to come, as there are plants going in each and every week.

Los Vaqueros: Striped bass are starting to bite again, especially for those fishing with anchovies. Catfish is somewhat strong as well, especially near the rock wall.

New Hogan: Striped bass has been strong this week. Use herring or anchovies to get the best bite.

New Melones: Great fishing spot for those who are looking for Kokanee. Limits are being hit on a regular basis by the spillway dam and by Rose Island. Trout fishing has been strong at night, thanks to submersible lighting. Look near the dam, the mouth of Angels Creek, and the buoys at glory hole cove. Bass fishing has also been strong at New Melones.

Oroville: Water is dropping at a rapid rate, making bass fishing somewhat slow at best. If you are going to fish in the area, look for topwater bite at sunrise.

Pardee: The front of the dam has been a great location this week, with Trout and Kokanee biting on a regular basis. Head to the upriver and the coves to get some bass. Smallmouths are biting, as are catfish.

Quarry Lakes: Quarry Lakes has been slow at best. Avoid this area for the next week.

San Pablo Bay: Schoolie bass was incredibly strong over the last week or so. Halibut is also projected to be strong in the area.

Shadow Cliffs: not the best spot for fishing over the last week. Some catfish have been biting, but not much.

Shasta: Bass has been strong both morning and night. Worms and grubs are biting the best. Centimudi is a great spot for Salmon. Trout are catching in the area to those who get 60 feet down.

Suisun Bay: Strong biting has been found at Buoy 2 and Ozol. Sturgeon has been found in these areas as well as at the Glomar. Use frozen shrimp if you want to get the best bite possible.

Rivers/Delta

Antioch: Small stripers, panfish, and catfish are being caught. Look to the sloughs for the best bite.

Frank’s Tract: Topwater lures are grabbing a somewhat decent black-bass bite. Striped bass are showing themselves in the area as well.

Pittsburg: Fishing has been slow in the area due to the high winds. While some are getting a few bites, most are walking away empty handed.

Rio Vista: Main channel is strong for fishing for catfish, bluegill, and stripers. Catfish are somewhat small. Head to the three mile slough and the Mokelumne river for stripers.
