Fishing Report: July 9, 2010

Lakes and Saltwater

Anderson: bass bite is relatively consistent, making this a strong fishing location.

Almanor: Get to the area in the morning if you are trying to get the best bites. Go 40 feet to get the best trout. Salmon can be found near the intake tower, and also toward the east area of the lake. Bass can be found as well; look to the rockier shores to find them.

Amador: Get to the area at night for the best crappie and catfish bite. Crappie are found at the docks, while catfish are going to be found near the dam. The docks also feature a somewhat strong bluegill fishing spot.

Berkeley: Halibut has been strong for the last week or so. Most are picking up multiple Halibut on their trips. Salmon fishing has been lacking at best, but Cod has been somewhat decent.

Berryessa: Somewhat strong bass fishing, top-water in the morning and along the weeds.

Bodega Bay: Salmon and Cod trips are uneven; Cod is strong, but Salmon is weak.

Camanche: Topwater fishing for bass is strong. Catfish is strong at night in the area.

Capitola: Large halibut being found in the area, as well as sardines and salmon.

Chabot: A large plant of catfish went in last week, helping to pick up fishing in the area. The plant was 550 pounds.

Clear: Catfish are found in the shallows, and bass are being found near the docks. Crappie fishing is somewhat strong in the deeper waters in the docks and rockier areas of the lake.

Collins Lake: Trout fishing is somewhat strong for those who get about 30 feet below the surface of the water. Mostly 4 pounders.

Contra Loma: Avoid the area for fishing within the next few weeks. Aerator broke in the area, and water level has been lowered to fix it.

Coyote: Bass biting is strong in the mornings. Crappie fishing has been strong near the launch ramp.

Del Valle: Stripers are being found near the dam. Trout plant has been nearly a month gone. Catfish plants are still going in on a weekly basis.

Emeryville: Strong cod trips making this a great location this week. Rock fish and cod are strong for those heading out on island trips.

LaFayette: A large catfish plant has gone in, making catfish fishing strong in the area. 1,250 pounds went in, with many being found near the tower. Also a strong area for Sunfish bites.

Loch Lomond: Bass has been slow, making this a rough fishing location for now. Bluegill fishing is still somewhat decent.

Los Vaqueros: Striped bass bite is strong in the area, especially near Oak Point and the Rock Wall.

McAlpine: Trout and bass are both being found in the area, as are catfish. Catfish are swimming deep, forcing fisherman to get a little lower than usual.

New Melones: Kokanee bite strong near Spillway, Carson Cove, and Highway 49 bridge.

Oroville: Great area for those looking for small bass fishing. Look to the morning and evening for larger fish.

Pardee: Trout found near the Boathouse, Porcupine Point, the Launch Ramp, and Tom Sawyer Island. Go upriver if trolling for trout.

Pillar Point: Fishing has been difficult in the area thanks to heavy amount of wind. Rock cod is decent at this location.

Quarry Lakes: Catfish plant for the week has not quite come to fruition. Bite has been slow for both catfish and trout. If you are fishing in the area, try to get in at sunrise, as this is providing the best fishing of the day.

San Luis Reservoir: Look to the forebay for the strongest fishing in the area. Striped bass and largemouth bass found in the area.

San Pablo Bay: Wind in the area is making fishing difficult at best. Sturgeon in the mornings. Halibut is on and off, depending on the wind. If wind is low, check out Angel Island and Red Rock.

San Pablo Reservoir: Catfish bite is strong thanks to the 1,250 plant that went into the area last week. 1,250 is going in again next week. Trout fishing is also somewhat strong for those fishing near the dam.

Shadow Cliffs: The major plants of catfish over the last few weeks have yet to yield strong bite. Do not hit the area for strong fishing.

Shasta: Salmon fishing is going to be strong near Little Backbone, Dry Creek, and the Dam. Look for 3-5 pounders for those down 100 feet. Strong trout bite makes this a great location for the week.

Suisun Bay: Some sturgeon is being caught in the area. Go to Buoy 2 for the strongest bite in the area.

Deltas

Antioch: Striped bass fishing is decent from Antioch to Frank’s Tract. Most are finding the bite with trolling.

Frank’s Tract: Black bass fishing has been strong in the area.

Freeport: Channel Cat can be found in the main river. Otis Slough, Elk Slough, and Eight Mile Road providing a strong amount of both bluegill and crappie.

Pittsburg: Boats are not getting out, making fishing difficult at best. Some stripers being caught, but not many.

Rio Vista: Weather has made fishing in the area difficult. Small stripers and sturgeon being caught during calmer points in weather.

Tracy: Black bass fishing has not been strong. Small striped bass has been decent in the area.
