Fishing Report: June 04, 2010

Lakes/Saltwater

Anderson: Look for bass in the one to two pound range in this area. Crappie are found behind the bridge.

Berryessa: Fish that stay toward the top of the water are biting. The areas close to the west shore are giving fisherman the best bite, and are doing so in the morning hours. Those fishing later in the day are having less luck. Bass are biting, at a size of around 2 to 3 pounds.

Berkeley: Bad weather has made this a semi-difficult area for fishing. Halibut is managing to catch somewhat decently.

Bon Tempe: Large plant of fish in Bon Tempe. The lake saw 1,000 pounds one week ago and 1,000 pounds a few days ago. Final plants of the season for Bon Tempe. Lagunitas also received another plant, receiving 500 pounds. This plant was about one week ago.

Capitola: Look for good amounts of Rock-Cod in the area near the kelp beds. Browns are also available in the area. Kelp beds have also produced good halibut fishing, as has the Santa Cruz Harbor and the shallow areas of New Brighten Beach. Those who are looking for sardines should look toward the surf area. Those looking for striped bass should look to the Capitola pear at night.

Chabot: Decent water temperatures are bringing about decent bites. Some are managing to catch trout when fishing at 10-15 feet below the water. The trout that are being caught are relatively slow. Bass and catfish catches are also relatively slow

Calero: Easy to find bass of up to 4 pounds with drop-shotted plastics. Crappie are being found on both sides of the boat dock.

Chesbro: Look to catch decent sized catfish at night with mackerel and anchovies. Do not look to Chesbro for your bass fishing.

Contra Loma: Contra Loma hasn’t been the best place for fishing over the last week or so. Fishing is slow at best. Some fishermen are getting catfish or trout near Channel Point with worms.

Coyote: Do not look to Coyote for fishing this week. Multiple fishermen reports incredibly slow fishing in this area.

Del Valle: The dam area is providing a decent level of Striped Bass. Some are catching striped bass upwards of 7 pounds with anchovies. Trout are starting to bite as well near the east swim beach, the dam, and the lower narrows.

Emeryville: Halibut and striped bass continue to bite in the area.

Lafayette: Some are still managing to catch trout in the area, but trout fishing is still slowing down. Catfish and bass are also getting picked up in the area, especially near the west and south ends of the lake.

Loch Lomond: Bass are finally moving around the lake, making them easier to catch. High water temperature, up to 70 degrees. Fishermen also managing to catch Sunfish.

Los Vaqueros: The weather has not been kind to the fishermen trying to get into Los Vaqueros. Wind is keeping boaters from getting out on the lake, making fishing difficult at best. The north side of the lake is providing a decent amount of trout, however, with an 18 pounder caught within the last week.

McAlpine: Trout are going for power bait, and bass are going for frog patterns. Fishermen finding good amounts of Catfish with night crawlers at night.

Monterey: Also a great place for rock-cod fishing. Those at Point Sur. Getting their limits.

Pacifica: Rockaway and Linda Mar producing good amounts of striped ass in the morning and the evening. Those looking for Crab should look to the Pacifica Pier.

Pillar Point: Multiple boats have seen great rock-cod catches in the area.

San Francisco Bay: Look to the area for striped bass larger than 25 inches. Halibut are still biting sparingly around the Bay Bridge.

San Pablo Reservoir: Shore fishermen are managing to catch their limit of trout. The area is getting 1,500 pound plants on a weekly basis, making this a great area for fishing.

San Pablo Bay: Look for improved conditions for halibut and striped bass fishing. Look for Angel Island, Paradise, and Red Rock for your fishing needs in the area.

Santa Cruz: Those looking for Salmon should give up on Santa Cruz, as the Salmon are no longer in the area. Halibut are still biting in the area.

Shadow Cliffs: Fishermen in the area are somewhat confused: a plant of 2,000 pounds of trout has not helped the fishing in the area. The trout are going deeper into the lake, making it difficult for those who cannot get that far down.

Suisun Bay: Look to Buoy 2 for your sturgeon fishing.  Ghost shrimp have been managing to catch sturgeon over 60 inches.

Quarry Lakes: Another lake that has seen a plant of trout in the last week. 800 pounds has made Quarry Lakes a great spot for trout fishing. Fishermen are finding that night crawlers work best.

UVAS: Good bass fishing in the area, especially with Robo-worms and Senkos. Look to get to the Peninsula for the best fishing in the area. Many are saying that all spots on the road side are seeing good bites fro m bass.

Rivers and Deltas:

Antioch: Like many areas, fishing has been slow. Black bass and catfish are being found at Holland Tract and Whiskey Slough.

Franks Tract: Also seeing issues, as far as fishing is concerned. Many having trouble catching bass. Lower Sherman Island is giving fishermen decent catfish catches.

Klamath River: Great for catching Salmon, thanks to the spring run. Some 30 pounders have been caught toward the lower part of the area.

Rio Vista: Striped bass are catching, especial toward the mouth of Old Sacramento. Fishermen are also managing to find Sturgeon above the bridge. Look toward the Cache Slough and Power lines for your Sturgeon fishing.

Russian River: The weather has hurt the fishing in the area, with rain driving away the fishing. Look for decent Shad fishing in the early afternoon.
