Lakes/Saltwater
Almanor: Currently a great place for bass fishing. Look to the north end of the lake for the best fishing in the area. Not a great place for trout and salmon; the fish are spread apart and can be hard to find.
Amador: Bass fishing is strong in this area, as well as catfish. Bluegill are also being caught in the area.
Anderson: Bass fishing is also strong in this area, but fish are relatively small. Look for boat fishing near the bridge to bring about good crappie fishing.
Berkely: Strong halibut fishing and striper fishing throughout the week.
Berryessa: Bass fishing is getting slower in the area, but is still relatively strong. Go in the mornings to get the best shot at the bass.
Camanche: Spotted bass are strong in the upriver area. Catfish bite is getting stronger, as is trout fishing.
Capitola: Beaches and piers are producing strong halibut and striped bass fishing. Rock cod also being caught near the kelp beds. Look toward the coast for bass fishing.
Chabot: Catfish is strong in the area, with two plants of 500 pounds coming within a week of each other. Trout fishing has slowed in the area.
Calero: Fishing has been relatively modest in the area, with decent bass fishing and crappie fishing.
Chesbro: Crappie fishing has been strong, but bass fishing has been slow at best.
Clear: Look toward the beds to find the best bass fishing in the area, especially in the north and south near Konocti Bay.
Contra Loma: Catfish has been relatively strong, generally in the 2-5 pound range.
Coyote: Another strong area for bass fishing.
Del Valle: Look toward the dam for the best striper fishing. Move elsewhere for trout fishing, as biting has been slow. Look toward the south end for catfish.
Emeryville: Halibut fishing has been hit or miss in the region. Rock cod has been somewhat steady, but not nearly as strong as in previous weeks.
Folsom: Bass has been slower than usual, as fish are moving to deeper areas. Boat traffic is making it harder for fishermen to get a bite.
Lafayette: Trout fishing has been relatively decent, but could be better. There are not more trout plants. Look for 1,250 pounds of catfish that were recently added in a plant.
Lake San Antonio: Stripers have been the best bet for fisherman in the area. Fishing is going to get more difficult as time goes on, thanks to extra boating in the lake.
Lane Nacimiento: Bass are being caught in the area: largemouth near Dip Creek and White Bass at Las Tablas.
Loch Lomond: Panfish are being found in the shallower areas. Bass fishing has also been strong in the area.
Los Vaqueros: Stripers are continuing to bite well near the rock wall and near the pier. Trout fishing should pick up in the area, as a plant is coming in within the week.
McAlpine: Catfish are catching at night, and bass are catching during the rest of the day. Also another area expecting a trout plant during the week.
Monterey: Cod fishing has been strong on a regular basis.
Pacifica: Crab fishing has been decent here, but the rest of the fishing has been somewhat difficult.
Pardee: The main lake is giving way to strong Trout and Kokanee fishing. Bass are catching well in the area, as well as trout. Overall, a strong fishing area for the week.
Pillar Point: Limits are being caught of reds and browns. Not much news on other types of fishing in the area.
San Francisco Bay: Halibut fishing has been relatively strong, toward oyster Point and Brisbane.
San Luis Reservoir: Look to the forebay for the best fishing in the area. Bass and striped bass are catching relatively well.
San Pablo Bay: Look for strong halibut fishing in this area. Areas to focus on are Southampton, Paradise, and Angel Island.
San Pablo Reservoir: 1,200 trout plant went into the Reservoir early last week. Catfish plants have not started, but should be picking up in the next few weeks. Those looking for strong trout fishing will be able to find it here.
Santa Margarita Lake: One of the best fishing locations during the week. Look for good catch of catfish, crappie, and bass.
Shadow Cliffs: Plants of catfish went in twice during the week, providing plenty of fishing opportunities. Trout plants will not come back until the fall.
Shasta: Salmon limits are being caught in the area. Trout fishing is strong near Arbuckle flats..
Quarry Lakes: Trout fishing has been unpredictable at best. Trout and catfish plants are going in: 500 pounds of catfish and 750 pounds of trout within the last week.
UVAS: Bass fishing has been decent toward the right of the overall parking area. Coves are decent as well. Look elsewhere for crappie.
Deltas and Rivers
Antioch: Stripers caught from shoreline to pear. Catfish are being caught in the Whiskey Slough.
Frank’s Tract: Black bass is starting to bite on a regular basis. Look to fish in the morning to get the best catches.
Pittsburg: Fishing has been relatively slow in the area thanks to the weather and the wind. Small striped bass are being caught, but few are keepers. Look for sturgeon at Buoys 33 and 34.
Rio Vista: Relatively slow fishing, with some stripes and catfish biting. Baitfishing is catching the stripers.
Walnut Grove: Stripers and panfish are being caught, but fish are small.
