Lakes and Saltwater

Amador: Those who are looking to pick up a great collection of fish are going to want head to Amador. Over 4,000 pounds of fish have been planted in the lake, with 1,000 coming from the state and 3,000 planted by the lake. The fish are swimming fairly shallow and are hugging the shoreline, making it easy for fishermen with White Power Bait to grab some fish.

Anderson: Head to the deeper points of the lake, and the channels, if you want to catch some fish. The lake levels are dropping, pushing the fish to these areas. If you are looking for crappie, head near the submerged trees. Deep Drop-shots are going to be the best for any type of fish you are trying to pick up.

Camanche: This is a strong location for trout fishing, as some plants are going into both the lake and the pond areas. Most are pulling in limits of trout up to 3 pounds. Head near the Dam and Hat Island if you want the best bite. This is not a strong location for bass fishing.

Chabot: Head to Indian Cove, Raccoon Point, and the Dam. Limits of trout are coming in, especially in these areas. Most are pulling up fish that are 1 pound, with some pulling up some 5 pounders.

Calero: The bass in the area are swimming deep. You are going to need Jigs if you want to get the best bite possible.

Chesbro: Avoid this location at all costs over the next week or two. Any reports out of the lake are claiming that it is incredibly slow with few, if any, bites.

Coyote: If you are fishing from the shore, you are going to be able to pick up some bass, with luck. Boaters will not be able to head back out onto the lake until April.

Del Valle: Trout fishing has been strong over the last week, as there were two different plants. A third plant of 1,200 is going in immediately. Head to the narrows and to the dam if you want a strong bite. Use power bait.

Lafayette: This has been one of the strongest trout fishing locations over the last week or two. Limits are coming in on boats. The south end of the lake is noted as the strongest location. A plant of 1,500 pounds went in over the last week, and another plant of 1,000 is going in this week.

Los Vaqueros: Will continue to be a strong location for trout fishing over the next few weeks. A plant of 1,200 pounds of trout went in this week. Some stripers are being caught thanks to the plant of trout. Catfish bite is practically non existent in this area.

McAlpine: If you want to get the best trout bite, head in the morning and in the late evenings. Night Crawlers are picking up the most bites. Bass have gone deeper but are being picked up by those who use plastics. If you are trying for catfish, head in the afternoon and use cutbaits.

Quarry Lakes: Head to Fishermen’s Row if you want to pick up the strongest trout bite in the area. Kiosk Cove and the Peninsula are also good locations. Use Gold Kastmasters and Night Crawlers if you want the best fishing in the area.

San Luis Reservoir: Head to the forebay if you want striped bass, and use small jerk baits. Larger bass are being picked up in the big lake by those who are using mudsuckers.

San Pablo Bay: Slow tides have hampered fishing somewhat. The weekend tides are going to be stronger for fishing, especially for stripers and sturgeon. Use ghost shrimp.

Pacifica: There is a large amount of crab in the area, but half of them are soft and must be sent back in. Snares are having the greatest amount of success.

UVAS: UVAS is going to be slow for a while, as this location is notorious for being fairly empty during these months.

Deltas

Antioch: Head to False River and Decker Island if you want the best striped bass bite in the area. Some are catching stripers up to 15 pounds. If you want sturgeon, head to Broad Slough.

Benicia: Head to Glomar and the Mothball Fleet with Bullheads if you want striped bass. Head to Chain Island if you are looking for sturgeon.

Frank’s Tract: The tract has plenty of bass and striped bass for those using white swim baits. Black bass has been ok, but are not biting hard. Senkos have been the best way to try to grab the black bass.

Pittsburg: The sturgeon bite is still relatively strong in this area. Head to Buoys 33, 34, 1, and 2 for the best bite. Other strong locations in clued the Firing Line, Chain Island, and Broad Slough. Head toward deeper water for the best bite.

Rio Vista: The area of the Power Lines, Cache Slough, Light 12 and Light 14 are producing the best sturgeon bite. Use Eel if you want the best bites possible. Schoolies of Stripers are coming in near Decker and Sherman Island. Use shad or mudsuckers to grab these fish.
