Lake Fishing -
There is still a decent Kokanee bite to be had at Berryessa. The fish are down between 60 feet and 75 feet beneath the surface. During the week, pressure has certainly been light. At Camanche, the bass are taking surface baits this week, especially during the morning. Later on in the day, the bass will take senkos and crank baits. The catfish are definitely more consistent this week, especially if you bring mackerel and fish near the rock areas. You can catch trout between 25 feet and 35 feet beneath the surface.
The catfish stocks are continuing in the Chabot, and fishing tends to be fairly decent during the evening hours. At Clear lake, there is a solid top water bite for bass, and you can also find successful fishing if you flip jigs or drop shit works near the docks in the Lakeport area.
At Contra Loma, there is a decent catfish bite in the early morning, especially if you come equipped with chicken livers and night crawlers. The best stretch of lake for you to try right now would be the east side of the lake. The anglers in this area are averaging between two cats and three cats with every outing. In Del Valle, the trout fishing is going to be best near the Heron Bay and the dam. The striped bass are out and taking night crawlers and whole anchovies as well. The striped bass are following along behind the trout, mostly in the Narrows, but also in the dam and Heron Bay as well, and you are bound to find catfish just about anywhere.
The bluegill is plentiful this week, especially along the westernmost side of the Lafayette lake. The mealworms are proving to be the best bait this week. You will find a bit of a bite for trout in the East Cove as well as in the lake's south end during the early hours of the morning. You may have an easy time of finding catfish in the middle of the lake as well, and also along the east cove. Trout fishing in Los Vaqueros is definitely going to be ideal in the morning, especially if you come with power bait in bright colors. Look for the catfish bite in the backs of all of the coves, and make sure that you are bringing mackerel to serve as bait.
Trollers at Pardee are getting trout around 25 feet beneath the surface, especially near the dam. The Kokanee are being fished from around 85 feet to 90 feet beneath the surface, especially in the upriver area. The trout plants are going in every week on schedule. The bass here can be found in the deeper water, and they are generally scattered and difficult to reach. At the San Pablo Reservoir, the hot spots for the catfish catch are Scow Canyon as well as Oak Point. The bass are taking swim baits primarily in the morning hours and the evening hours. The consistent producer this week is senkos, all throughout the day.
At Trinity and Lewiston, the bass fishing is continuing to be quite food for the few that are going out. The lake is pretty low right now but launching is still possible at Minsersville. Lewiston Lake's upper half is producing trout for the bait fishermen that come equipped with power eggs as well as night crawlers. At Quarry Lakes o the other hand, fishing has been relatively on the slow side, but there are still a few highlights to consider. Last week for example, a 2.8 lb smallmouth was caught, and a limit worth of trout was caught off of Fishermen's row last week as well. On Tuesday there was a trout plant of 750lbs.
River Fishing -
The salmon are finally starting to show in improved numbers at Trinity, between Lewiston and Junction City. The run has not yet reached full strength by any stretch of the imagination, but the frequency of fish being hooked is definitely on the rise.
Delta Fishing -
At Frank's Tract, there is definitely a top water opportunity for striped bass right before the dark hours. Most of the stripers are small, but they are up to 4lbs right now. The fishing for black bass is slow. At Rio Vista, the fishing for striped bass is remaining good. Many smaller stripers are being caught but it is not uncommon to find larger stripers either. The sturgeon bite is still good as well, especially from Thain Island and the Power Lines. Catfish are coming out of Tracy in the two and three lb range. You'll find striped bass fishing to be relatively hit or miss. The fishing for black bass has picked up, however.
Saltwater Fishing -
At Berkeley and Emeryville, the potluck boats are pursuing halibut inside the gates and rock cod on the outside. The cod trips are returning with limits, and the halibut trips are making two or so fish for each rod. Fishing is slow at Pacifica, especially off the pier and around the beaches, but some anglers are continuing to jig in search of sardines.
At the San Francisco Bay, the bite for halibut is definitely improving, especially in the south end of the bay. Between the Brisbane tubes and candlestick you will find good productivity. Trollers with frozen anchovies have been particularly effective this week. Along Oyster Point, sharks and rays are being pulled out in decent numbers.
At San Pablo Bay, the halibut fishing has been steady. Good spots have been Paradise and Red Rock this week. The best bait so far this week has been live shiners. The striped bass being pulled from the water here are generally taken on bullhead, and shore anglers are taking bass out of the water at the China Camp.
