Giant White Sea Bass in Monterey Bay
By: John Whitley
This huge white seabass was caught in Monterey Bay, CA in October of 2009. It weighed a little over 70 pounds. I floated a dead market squid about 20 feet below the surface. The water was very still that day and it was hard to get the line out so I tied an empty water bottle and used it as a kite to get the bait away from the boat. Worked great. The fish would not bite for us close to the boat. We ended up catching a couple that day. When the squid are in the bay, so are the "ghosts" as they are called.
