This is a true lake community and as such there are numerous things to do here besides boating and fishing. We really enjoyed our time on this lake and found it to be well above our expectations.

The lake shore is split up into three distinct areas and each one has a campground. The current management has done a lot to improve the quality of the beaches and the campsites and their attention to detail is apparent. New restrooms were recently added and overall, they’ve done a great job bringing everything up to date.

Please note that this is actually a private lake, so you will need to call ahead to get a guest pass before you arrive, unless you have a friend who happens to be a resident of the community. Yes, the usual daily catch limits will apply and you will need to have a current California fishing license before you are allowed to fish. If you will be operating a boat, you’ll need to have your California license and boat registration. This is true whether you are renting or bringing your own craft. In addition, lake management states that you will need a HVLA sticker to launch your boat without a fee. That means that residents are typically the only ones allowed this privilege. However, the fee is minimal for non residents.

Your information about Hidden Valley Lake(HVL), California is inaccurate. HVL is a private Homeowners Association; only members are allowed to use their registered boats on the Lake. There are no boats for rent, and there are boat and motor size limitations on member owner boats. Fishing is only permitted for members and their registered guests. There are no Catfish in the Lake.
