Is boating allowed?
Yes, but only no powered boats are allowed since this water may need to be used for drinking water. Sailboats are allowed and this a popular destination for sailors due to the great water and great atmosphere.
Is there a boat ramp?
Yes, a boat ramp is located on the reservoir, but there is a fee to use it.
What you need to know:
Even though you can’t bring a powered boat here, that doesn’t make Highland Springs Reservoir any less fun. In fact, it’s quite enjoyable thanks to the fact that there just isn’t much noise. If you’re looking for a very quiet weekend getaway, this is the perfect place to go.
We were surprised by the sheer quantity of the fish here and how easy it was to catch one. We’ve included more information about that below, but it is safe to say, if you like to fish and you don’t like going home empty handed, this is definitely the place to go.
We found that the campsites were very well maintained and there were plenty of things to see and do for the whole family. There is a horseshoe pitching pit, as well as a great wilderness area. Overall, this is a beautiful area and it is inspiring to visit here. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful vacation and the chance to literally get a boatload of fish.
The climate is pretty temperate here, although some summer days can get over ninety degrees. The nights are still cool however, so you may want to bring a sweatshirt or light jacket. Winter days are around 50 degrees, but it can get colder depending on the weather pattern. If you will be here in winter and don’t want to get too cold at night, we highly recommend staying at one of the nearby hotels, which we have listed below.
Is camping allowed?
Yes, there are numerous campsites located right near the reservoir. There are also numerous hotels in the area for those that prefer a little more comfort.

What kind of fish will I find here?
This is a great place to find many different kinds of fish including crappie, bass and bluegill. The lake is incredibly well stocked and it’s almost impossible not to catch any fish here.
Are there any regulations I need to know about?
Yes, if you plan to fish the reservoir, you must have a valid California fishing license. For boaters, it is necessary to have proper boat registration and licensing before operating a boat here.
