About the Lake: 

Indian Valley Reservoir is a popular destination for boaters, hunters and fishers. The area is incredibly scenic and there is enough to do here for the whole family. Although the campgrounds are free to use they are very well maintained and clean. Nearby Clear Lake usually steals all the thunder in this area, so if you are looking for a quiet getaway, this is the place to go.It's a favorite among fly fisherman and anglers, and there are plenty of fish to be had. The reservoir is regularly stocked and the trout put up a very good fight. This is truly a sporting paradise that is full of exciting opportunities for nature lovers of all kinds.

Boat Launches:

Yes, there are several boat launches located around the lake. Please contact management for more information and exact locations.

What You Need to Know:

Boating is allowed on this lake, but there is a 10mph speed limit that is enforced on the lake. Boat owners are asked to drop this down to 5mph when they get close to shore. Please be advised that lake levels frequently drop. It is a good idea to call ahead to check water levels before you arrive. Water skiing is not allowed on this lake, but other than that, it is very friendly towards boaters.Lake management has the following notes about the lake:"Hunting is permitted on the BLM lands. Since there are many private property inholdings in the area, be aware of the boundary lines. For hunting regulations, contact California Department of Fish and Game at (707) 944-5500.

The Kowalski trail offers the hiker 2.5 miles following the reservoir's west edge. You must cross the dam to access the trail.

Indian Valley Reservoir is home to large and smallmouth bass, kokanee salmon, crappie, rainbow trout, bluegill and catfish.   Brown trout can found in the North Fork Cache Creek above and below the reservoir.  Refer to current California fishing regulations."

All sites are free to use

Blue Oaks Camp

offers 6 campsites with picnic tables, fire pits and vault toilets. No hooks-up.  No potable water.  1.6 miles from Indian Valley Dam.Directions:  From Highway 20, go north on Walker Ridge Road 5.4 miles to "T" intersection.  Turn left and proceed 2.4 miles to campground.

Kowalski Camp

is on the west shore and is primitive camping with no developed facilities. This is hike-in or boat-in access only.Directions: From Highway 20, go  north on Walker Ridge Road 5.4 miles to "T" intersection.  Turn left and proceed 4 miles to Indian Valley Reservoir.  To hike to site, cross Indian Valley dam to trailhead.  Hike 2.5 miles to campsites.  To boat to site, proceed northwest approximately 1 mile to site.

How to Get There:

Located about 27 miles west of Williams or 14 miles east of Clearlake Oaks on Highway 20. Turn north on Walker Ridge Road, a graded gravel road, into the recreation area.

I just got home from Indian valley reservoir 8/12/09
It is empty they drained it not a drop of water in it now,so sad
