About the Lake:

If you like to fish, then this is a lake that you should not miss. Those who have fished here report that they reach their limits in just a few hours and the action is literally non stop. Although there are some health restrictions with the fish here (please see below for more information) this is truly a sportsperson's paradise. The lake is very well stocked and the boating is superb.This is a day-use facility, so while no camping is allowed, there are some great places to have a picnic in the area. They offer full services for boaters, making it easy to get on the water in just a few minutes.

The lake is open all year round and the hours are usually from 6am to 5pm. Please keep in mind that the lake does close periodically. Please call ahead to lake management to see if any special events are scheduled or if the lake will be closed for any reason.

The recreation area is very family friendly and offers trail hiking, roller blading and numerous other activities. You can really make a whole day of it here and the entire family will have something to do. The native garden is a favorite spot for kids as well as adults.

What You Need to Know:

Please be advised that there are a few health warnings if you plan to eat the fish you catch here. Please contact lake management for more information. Apparently, there were chemicals found in the water here, as well as numerous other lakes. For your own safety, it's best to use caution before consuming these fish.

It is also important to note that several mountain lions have been spotted in the area. If you plan on bringing your family or if you will be fishing alone, please take appropriate cautionary measures.

Lake Management states:

Fishing ($4.00 daily fishing access permit)

Rental boats (Private rowboats, canoes, kayaks and small sailboats allowed if carried atop vehicle - no gasoline engines)

Picnic areas (including 2 group sites available for reservation)

Children's playground (located on the East lawn)

Native Garden

Senior and disabled persons discounts

Ample parking ($6.00 daily parking fee)

Yearly passes that can be used 365 days per year (Available for purchase at the park only)

How to Get There:

From Oakland:

Take Highway 24 eastbound to the Acalanes Rd. exit. Continue down the off ramp, through the light on Mt. Diablo Blvd. Continue on Mt. Diablo Blvd. for approximately 1 mile. The Recreation Area entrance will be on your right.

From Concord:

Take Highway 680 south to Highway 24 West. Take the Acalanes Rd./Upper Happy Valley Rd. exit. Loop under the freeway to the stoplight which will be Mt. Diablo Blvd. Make a left on to Mt. Diablo Blvd. and continue for approximately one mile. The Recreation Area entrance will be on your right.
