Lake Henshaw, Santa Ysabel, CA

Lake Henshaw is located in: Santa Ysabel, CA

Phone: 760-782-3501

Is boating allowed?

Absolutely, and if you don't have your own, you can easily rent one right at the lake. This is a very boater-friendly lake and there is more than enough room to go around. Overcrowding is rare. There are a few access fees to pay, which you can find in the list below.

Is there a boat launch?

Yes, there is a ramp on site, but you will need to pay a day use fee if you want to use it. We've detailed that fee below.

Is camping allowed?

Yes, there are many different places to camp. The cabin rentals are very popular and give the place a nice homey feel. The rates are reasonable and we found the facilities to be very well maintained, both the campgrounds themselves and the cabins.

Available Campsites:

The campgrounds here can hold up to 400 people, and there is an additional 100 slot RV campground. Most people choose to stay in the cabins that are available for rent.

Is fishing allowed?

Yes, and encouraged. This is a great place to get in some fishing, due mainly to the lack of cover. The water is nice and clear so you shouldn't have a problem catching plenty of fish during your trip.

What kind of fish can be found here?

The lake is home to bluegill, crappie, a few trout and the occasional bass can also be found here. You may even be able to snag a catfish from time to time.

Are there any regulations?

If you will be boating, you'll need to have a valid operator's license. In addition, if you plan to fish, you'll need a current California fishing license.

About the Lake:

This is a great lake located near the Plumas forest, but it's nothing like it at all. The area is wide open, and you're literally in the middle of a field. There are no trees around the lake, which gives you access to an incredible view and as we mentioned above, you'll be able to spot the fish quite easily. We recommend fishing during the early morning or late evening hours, especially in summer, when the fish will be in the shallows. The lake management is very friendly and there are plenty of activities available for the whole family.
