History of the Lake:
Lake Isabella is located on the Kern River and this is one lake that should try to see at least once in your life. It's known as the Kern Valley's best kept secret, but we couldn't resist sharing our information about this lake. If you are looking for a great place not only for boating, but also for fishing, hiking and camping, this is the place to visit. We had a terrific time on this lake and hope to return soon. By far, this is one of the nicest lakes in the area and there are so many marinas and campsites, it was very hard to choose where we wanted to stay.
Is camping allowed?
Yes, there are numerous campsites at the lake. You can reserve your spot by calling the number listed above. The campgrounds are listed below.
What you need to know:
The water levels on this lake do vary greatly. If you will be bringing your own boat, please call ahead to get current conditions.
Is fishing allowed? Yes, as long as you have the proper license.
What kind of fish will I find here? You can find crappie, bluegill, trout, catfish and even the occasional bass.

Lake Management Specifies:
Boats and watercraft are $45 / year, non-motorized boats and watercraft are $30 / year, and you must have a permit for each vessel.
Three day permits are also available for $15. Please keep in mind that anyone operating a vessel must be at least 16 years of age.
How to Get There:
From San Francisco (5 hours, 30 minutes): Take I-580 east to 1-5. Take 1-5 south to Highway 46. Take Highway 46 east to Highway 99. Take Highway 99 south to Highway 178 (in Bakersfield). Take Highway 178 east to the Kern Valley. Total miles: 340.
