About the Lake:

Lake Mendocino is a man-made lake that was finished in 1959. It is home to numerous varieties of fish and is a favorite for boaters thanks to its tranquil but fun atmosphere. The lake is comprised of 1822 acres and offers a shoreline stretching over 15 miles.
There are numerous facilities for boaters and campers, including full service marinas and campsites. The visitor center is must a see and offers a glimpse into this area's history. You'll also find numerous dedicated picnicking sites around the lake where you can enjoy the beauty of nature and the wildlife found in this area. All told, there are more than 300 places to camp at the lake.

On the southwest shore just past the Park Office on Lake Mendocino Dr.

Lake Mendocino Marina

1.3 miles east of Calpella on Marina Dr. on the north end of the lake.

Is Camping Allowed?

Yes, camping is allowed at the following locations:

Bu-Shay Campground

North end of the lake, near the inlet for the East Fork of the Russian River off Hwy. 20.

Large camping area with numerous features

Che-Ka-Ka Area

On the southwest shore just past the Park Office on Lake Mendocino Dr.

Smaller camp site that includes a launch ramp

Ky-En Campground

North end of the lake one mile east of Calpella on Marina Dr.

Camping, swimming and tent sites

Miti Boat-In Camp

About the center of the lake on the east shore.

Only accessible by boat

Kaweyo

On the southwest shore just past the Park Office on Lake Mendocino Dr.

Campsites, equestrian area. Please note that you will need a permit to camp here.

Boating Restrictions:

The lake officials ask that all vessels be operated under state and federal regulations.

What kind of fish can be found in the lake?

Bass, striped bass, catfish and numerous other kinds of fish call this lake home.

Are there any fishing restrictions?

Yes, lake officials state:

Bass: Open season all year. Limit: five bass

Striped Bass: Open season all year. Limit: two. Minimum Size: 18"

Crappie: Open season all year. Limit: twenty-five

Catfish: Open season all year. Limit: no limit

Bluegill: Open season all year. Limit: no limit

Special notes:

Please note that for campsites that do not require a registration, all campers are served on a first come, first serve basis. There is a quiet time on the lake that is observed from 10pm to 7am. If you bring a pet, it must be controlled and on a leash at all times.
