About the Lake: Lake Merritt is one of the largest man-made salt water tidal pools in the world. They are located right on the Pacific Flyway and offer opportunities for nature lovers of all kinds. Boating is what they do best though and the amount of available programs, fishing opportunities and competitions is incredible.
Boat rentals are available if you do not have your own vessel.

$2.00 Day Permit: to use your own boat or small vessel in Lake Merritt, absolutely no motor boats or motorized vessels allowed.
Note: Sailboats rented to experienced sailors only and must be rented ½ hour before the last rental time and return to the dock ½ hour before closing.

What Else to Do There: There are numerous areas in the park for all members of the family. There is a sporting facility for youth and adult golf, as well as nature hikes and more in the actual park area. Swimming is allowed, and classes are also available. Please keep in mind that all swimmers entering classes must be certified before they will be allowed to enter a class. They do state that, "A valid Red Cross Swimmer, Intermediate Swimmer, Lifesaving, or Basic Sailing Card will be accepted in lieu of the swim evaluation."
