About the Lake:

Lake Oroville is one of the best places to find salmon in California, but the lake is also stocked with numerous other kinds of fish. The lake covers a surface area of 15,000 acres and has a shoreline that is more than 165 miles long. It is a man made lake that was opened in 1967 and has been busy ever since. The boating facilities here are top notch.

Boating Restrictions:

Lake officials state:

 

night boating is permissible with proper running lights

night time speed limit is 5 mph

5 mph speed limit is in effect within 100 ft. of a swimmer and 200 ft. of any shore

 

What kind of fish can be found in the lake?

Numerous different kinds of bass can be found here as well as trout, salmon and many other varieties of fish.

 

Are there any fishing restrictions?

Yes, lake officials have stated:

 

Trout and salmon: Open season all year. Limit: five trout or salmon in combination.

Black bass: Open season all year. Limit: five. Special fishing restriction: Black Bass may be kept under 12 inches or over 15 inches. black bass 12 - 15 inches must be released.

Catfish: Open season all year. Limit: no limit

Crappie: Open season all year. Limit: twenty - five.

Sturgeon: Open season all year. Limit: one. Minimum size forty - six inches total length

 

Special notes:

Please note that camping onshore is not permitted, unless it is a specific “boat in” camping site.
