Is boating allowed?
Boating is absolutely allowed at Lake Whiskeytown. Boating is just one of numerous popular activities that have been made popular at this particular lake. Whiskeytown Lake offers a wide variety of different recreational activities and opportunities all year long, including sailing, fishing, kayaking, swimming and waterskiing just to name a few.
Is there a boat ramp?
Whiskeytown Lake is primarily intended for boating sports and boating related activities, so there are numerous access points to get your boat into the lake.
Is camping allowed?
Camping is one of the most popular activities in Whiskeytown Lake. Whiskeytown Lake offers both tent camping opportunities and RV camping opportunities as well. Oak bottom campgrounds have fire grates as well as central public restrooms. Lakeside tent sites are offered at $18.00 per night, and other tent sites are offered at $16 per night. Primitive campsites offer tables, fire rings, food storage lockers and public restrooms. Permits for these campsites are offered at $10 per night with a maximum number of six persons per site. The Brandy Creek RV campground has camping for self contained units but no hookups or restrooms. During the summer, the Brandy Creek RV Campground permits are $14 per night, and in the winter they are only $7 per night, and permits are available through the campground's registration box. There is also a Dry Creek Group Tent Campground that can hold between twenty and fifty people. Two sites can be reserved at once for a total of 100 campers at a rate of $75 dollars per night.
Is fishing allowed?
Whiskeytown Lake is best suited for boats and larger crafts rather than personal water crafts like jetskis. Fishing is a popular aspect of visiting this lake, and there are numerous different fish species that can be caught in the lake all throughout the year. Not only will you find native species of fish in Whiskeytown Lake but you will also find non native fish species in Whiskeytown lake as well.
What kind of fish will I find there?
There are two different categories of fish that you will find in Whiskeytown Lake; native fish species and non native fish species. The list of native fish species includes Sacramento sucker (Catostomus occidentalis), California roach (Hesperoleucus symmetricus), Hardhead (Mylopharodon Conocephalus), Sacramento pikeminnow (Ptychocheilus grandis), Pacific lamprey (Lampetra tridentate), Rainbow trout, Steelhead (Oncorhynchus mykiss), Chinook salmon, King salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha), and Riffle sculpin (Cottus gulosus).
Non-native fish species include Green sunfish (Lepomis cyanellus), Bluegill (Lepomis macrochirus), Smallmouth bass (Micropterus dolomieu), Spotted bass (Micropterus punctulatus), Largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides), Black crappie (Pomoxis nigromaculatus), Kokanee salmon, Sockeye salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka), Brown trout (Salmo trutta), Brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis), Brown bullhead (Ameiurus nebulosus), and Channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus).
