Parking Fee: Parking is free, unless the vehicle is parked there for a stadium event. In that case, parking ranges from $10 to $20 per vehicle.
Are Dogs Allowed? Yes, dogs are allowed at the park and there is no fee. However, owners are asked to keep their dogs on a leash at all times.
Boat Launch Fee: There is a two lane boat launch ramp that can be used at no cost.
Types of Boats Allowed: Most boats are allowed, but please observe the rules if you are entering the 50 acre marsh area. In this particular spot, motorized vehicles are not allowed, so that the marsh and the creatures in it are not disturbed. This is also done to cut down on pollution in the water. Please note that rental boats are not available in this area.
Restrictions: This park doesn't have many restrictions, but they do state, "Motorized boats and hovercraft are not allowed in marshland areas. Motorized vessels are restricted during certain times of the year due to bird migration and nesting in the marshes." Swimming is not allowed, but there are places where you can soak in the sun on the platform and the surrounding beaches.
About the Park: This is a beautiful facility that has something to offer the whole family. The area is stocked with fish, but please keep in mind that you will need a license to fish here. Boating is very popular, but there are also opportunities for bird watching, picnicking, hiking and just enjoying nature. The platform overlooking the marsh is a favorite with many visitors and allows them to enjoy all of the different wildlife as well as the boats in the nearby area.
The entire park comprises 741 acres next to Oakland's port. The area was built in order to preserve the marsh land in this area. It is home to numerous sculptures and outdoor areas, but there are some indoor activities that can be enjoyed at the Shoreline Center. This is a common place for weddings, receptions and corporate events. It can accommodate 60 to 125 guests and catering is available.
Accessibility; Many areas of the park are wheelchair accessible. Access is available for fishing, hiking trails, parking and the special viewing platform that overlooks the marsh.
How to Get There: According to park management, "From I-880 in Oakland, exit at Hegenberger Road and head west. Turn right onto Doolittle Drive (Hwy. 61) and right again onto Swan Way. You will then turn left into the park for access to trails, a large grassy play area, reservable picnic areas, and a boardwalk out to the Arrowhead Marsh. Continuing on Doolittle Drive will bring you to a boat ramp, reservable picnic areas, and fishing piers."
