- Location: This loop hike is located in the Napa River Ecological Reserve as part of the California Department of Fish and Game in Napa County
- The Hike: In the summer time, trails squeeze through a beautiful jungle of vegetation on this one mile loop hike that traces a tiny preserve along the Napa Valley River.
- Distance: This hike is one mile total, forming a loop that will bring you back to the trail head.
- Category and Difficulty: This is a flat and easy hike, though navigation can be a bit tough along the river crossing.
- Exposure: There is a mixture of exposed areas where there is plenty of sun as well as shady areas.
- Traffic: Traffic is generally pretty light on this trail when it is open.
- Trail Surface: The trails are all composed of dirt, but are relatively flat and easy walking.
- Walk Time: You can walk this hike in less than an hour.
- Season: Although this hike is nice any time of the year, it is especially popular during the spring and autumn months. Keep in mind that this trail head is generally inaccessible during the wetter months because there is no route through or over the Napa Trailhead. If you are unsure about the conditions of the trail, call the California Department of Fish and Game for more information.
- Trailhead Coordinates: This trail is located at 38°25'3.66"N // 122°21'11.60"W
Amenities: Within a short distance of the trailhead you will find pay phone, restaurants and gas near downtown Yountville and Highway 29 to the north. There are no accommodations for camping here.
Rules: This trail is open between sunrise and sunset. The single trail is for hiking only, though dogs are permitted as long as they are leashed.
Fees: There are no parking or entrance fees to use this trail.
Map: A good map for this region is the AAA San Francisco Bay Region map.
Accommodations: There is a small paved parking lot. There is a portable toilet here. There is no drinking water, handicapped parking or pay phone accommodations here. There is an information signboard on site that provides maps and basic information.
Public Transportation: There is no direct public transportation leading to this trail head.
How to Get There: From the CA 29 Highway in Yountville you are going to want to turn east onto Madison. Drive for approximately 0.2 miles until you reach a T intersection with Yount, and take a left here followed by an immediate right onto the road marked Yountville Cross. Now drive for an additional 0.9 miles until you reach the trailhead, which will be on the leftmost side of the road.

This is a beautiful destination if you enjoy identifying plants and tree varieties, with blackberry, coyote brush, poison oak, wild rose, snowberry, wild plum, wild grape, buckeye, ash and walnut all available in this area.
