About the Lake:

This gorgeous lake cover 4400 surface acres and offers a shoreline of 50 miles. The area is particularly beautiful and makes for a very serene environment. The fishing here is terrific and the full service marina really caters to boaters.

Boat Launches:

Acorn East Campground

North side of lake on S. Petersburg Road, Valley Springs CA 95252

$2.00 fee, year round.

Fiddleneck Day-Use Area

North shore, on fiddleneck point, between Hogan Dam Rd. and S. Petersburg Rd., Valley Springs CA 95252

$2.00 fee, year round.

Is Camping Allowed?

Yes, you can camp at the following locations around the lake:

New Hogan Lake

Camping fees as of January 1997:

$12.00 per night and $6.00 for extra vehicles from April 1 thru September 31.

$6.00 per night and $3.00 for extra vehicles from Oct. 1 thru March 31.

Group camping area fee: $30.00 per night.

Boat launching fees: $2.00 year round.

Golden Age/Golden Access cards are accepted.

Acorn West

Located on north side of the lake between Hogan Dam Road and S.Petersburg Road, Valley Springs CA 95252

Acorn East

North side of the lake between Hogan Dam Road and S.Petersburg Road, Valley Springs CA 95252

Oak Knoll

North side of lake on S. Petersburg Road, Valley Springs CA 95252

Coyote Point

North side of lake near Oak Knoll campgrounds.

Available for group stays - reservation only

Deer Flat

Northeast side of lake.

Summer months only - boat in camping

Boating Restrictions:

Lake officials state:

Boating laws are enforced by the Calaveras County Sheriff's deputies and Corps rangers.

5 mph/no wake areas inside buoy line and around the Fiddleneck Day-Use Area.

Observe bouy line/closed areas.

Boat-in campsites open only from May thru September.

What kind of fish can be found in the lake?

Numerous varieties of fish can be found here including trout, catfish and bass.

Are there any fishing restrictions?

Yes, according to lake officials:

Trout: Open season all year. Limit: five trout

Bass: Open season all year. Limit: five bass. Minimum length: twelve inches.

Striped bass: Open season all year. Limit: five. Minimum size: no size limit.

Catfish: Open season all year. Limit: twenty (except Bullheads no limit.)

Crappie: Open season all year. Limit: twenty-five

Other species: Other species of fish may be taken in any number and at any time of the year by angling.

Special notes:

Please note that the water levels in this lake do fluctuate, sometimes to an extreme. Call ahead for current water levels. There are a few restrictions for campers, including that only down and dead wood may be used for fires and fires may only be lit in designated areas. If you have a pet with you, they must be kept on a leash at all times.

Checking on turkey in back of lake any hints? I kill crappie there before never got into the striped bass few boils that’s it! But turkey I’m looking for now!!
