About the Lake:

New Melones Lake is a stunning spectacle that stretches out over 12,000 surface acres and features more than 100 miles of shoreline. The dam and lake facilities were built by the Army Corp of Engineers and have much to offer to visitors. The fishing here is particularly good and the camping sites offer numerous amenities. You can fish this lake all year round and the weather is usually quite nice, no matter what the season is.

Yes, camping is permitted at these locations:

Ironhorse Campground

Located on west side of Gloryhole access road.

Boating Restrictions:

Lake officials state:

Boating laws are enforced.

Fishing is permitted 24 hours a day. Vehicles and boat trailers may be parked overnight at any launch ramp parking area.

No Camping allowed in parking lots or on shorelines.

Overnight occupancy of anchored vessels is limited to 14 nights in a 30-day period.

Speed limit 10 mph. within campgrounds and day-use areas.

What kind of fish can be found in the lake?

Numerous types of fish can be found here including bass, trout, crappie, bluegill and catfish.

Are there any fishing restrictions?

Yes, according to lake officials:

Trout: Open season all year. Limit: five trout

Bass: Open season all year. Limit: five bass. Minimum length: twelve inches.

Catfish: Open season all year. Limit: twenty (except Bullheads no limit.)

Crappie: Open season all year. Limit: twenty-five

Other species,: Other species of fish may be taken in any number and at any time of the year by angling.

Special notes:

Please note that water levels can fluctuate at this lake quite dramatically throughout the year. It is a good idea to call ahead to check on these levels before you arrive. Please note that if you do bring a pet, they will need to be kept on a leash at all times. Quiet time is observed between the hours of 10pm to 8am. Camping on the shoreline is strictly prohibited.
