Went halibut fishing with Captain Perry, deckhand Mikey, and the Sea Turtle outside the gate on the north bar. Yet another great reason to go fishing on the turtle is that Captain Perry has a bait receiver. What that means is that even if you cannot buy live bait, Perry will have live bait. Live bait is essential.
After a minor bit is technical difficulty, we headed out the golden gate to the north bar. We were fishing with live anchovies in 35-55 ft of water on the north bar. The morning was pretty slow. As the saying goes, "they don't call it catching." Then the tide shifted and the action started. We caught 2 California halibut and a sand dab, had a couple of others on the line and numerous raked baits.
When we returned to the dock, as he had done all day, Mikey got right to work. He cleaned and bagged our fish. He did an excellent job. I found no bones in my fish. I grilled the halibut. Brushed the skin with olive oil and then put skin side down. A bit of garlic salt on the flesh. We made the perfectly grilled fish into fish tacos.
So just when we thought the day couldn't get better. Mikey hand feed the harbour seal the skin off of one of the fish. What makes it even better is that the timing on the picture was perfect.
