- Category and Difficult: This is a very easy 1.2 mile out-and-back walk on a trail that is completely flat. If you want to supplement this excursion, you might consider climbing to the bluff for ocean views and scrambling down a hillside to enjoy a nice walk on the beach.
- Exposure: This is a completely exposed trail with plenty of sunshine and very little availability for shade.
- Traffic: The traffic on this trail is moderate.
- Trail Surface: This trail offers a mix of dirt fire road coupled with sandy beach.
- Walk Time: The walking time for this trial is less than an hour.
- Season: This particular trail is nice all throughout the year and in any season.
- Trailhead Coordinates: This trail is located at Latitude 37°30'5.94"N by Longitude 122°29'48.30"W
Amenities: There are several restaurants lining Capistrano Road, which can be reached on the way to the trailhead. There is a more extensive selection of services available near Half Moon Bay, Moss Beach and El Granada which are all nearby. No camping accommodations are provided.
Rules: The parking lot for this trail is open from sun up to sun down. Dogs are permitted here but only while leashed and only on the trail. Neither dogs or horses are permitted on the beaches of the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve.
Fees: There are no parking fees or entrance fees for this trail.
Map: A good map for getting to this region is the AAA San Francisco Bay Region map.
Accommodations: The parking lot is spacious and there are portable toilets here but no maps or drinking water. There are designated spots for handicapped parking, and this trail is well suited for people in wheel chairs except for when the weather is wet.
Public Transportation: The Sam Trans #17 bus stops within close distance to this trailhead.
How to Get There: From The California 1 in San Mateo County, turn west when you reach a traffic light for Capistrano. Drive for approximately 0.3 miles on Capistrano before taking a left on Prospect. Now you should drive 0.1 of a mile before turning left on Broadway. Take an almost immediate right onto Princeton, and then drive another 0.4 miles before turning right onto West Point Ave. Now drive another 0.6 miles and you will reach a parking lot on the leftmost side of the road just before you reach the Air Force station entrance.
Notes: Contact the Pillar Point Harbor at (650) 726-5727. The entire hike is 1.2 miles there and back. The trail ends at 0.4 miles, the turn around point is at 0.6 miles on the beach when further access is blocked off, and you will reach the trailhead at 1.2 miles.
