- Category and Difficulty: This is a moderately strenuous 8 mile long hike that climbs steep trails with a total elevation change of approximately 1800 feet. The trailhead elevation is close to 100 feet. The highest accessible elevation for the park is 1840 feet.
- Exposure: This trail is almost completely exposed.
- Traffic: The traffic on this trail is generally light to moderate.
- Trail Surface: The trails here are primarily dirt trails and dirt fire roads.
- Walk Time: The average walk time for this particular trail is 3.5 hours.
- Season: This particular trail is nice all throughout the year and during any season.
- Trailhead Coordinates: This trailhead can be found at 37°33'14.00"N Latitude and 122°30'44.39"W Longitude.
Amenities: You can find gas, stores and restaurants back in the Pacifica area. No camping is provided at this trailhead.
Rules: Most of the trails at this trailhead are designated as being multiple use trails. There are two trails that are designated as being hiking only trails. Dogs are absolutely permitted on these trails, but only when they are kept on a leash.
Fees: There is no entrance or parking fees for this trailhead.
Map: A good map for getting to this region is the AAA San Francisco Bay Region map.
Accommodations: There is parking for approximately 6 cars at the trailhead and other parking nearby. You can get a map at the information signboard when you first arrive at the trailhead. There are portable toilets here as well as picnic areas to take advantage of on the trailhead.
Public Transportation: There is not any direct public transportation for this trailhead, but the SamTrans bus number 294 does stop nearby in Montara.
How to Get There: From the CA 1 in San Mateo, you are going to want to drive for approximately 4 miles from the final Pacifica traffic signal, which is Linda Mar. Turn left when you reach the small parking lot, or go a little further south and park on the road. The trailhead is a little tricky to find, and is generally easiest to find when coming north rather than south.
Some locals in Pacifica recommend that you should start any hikes in the area from Higgins Way, which is a dead end street that is on the mountain's north slope. You can get here from CA 1 by turning onto Linda Mar, then right onto Adobe, and then left onto Higgins.
