About the Lake:

This lake stretches out over 695 square miles and is considered to be one of the oldest lakes in the western hemisphere. It's rare to find a body of water in this part of California that is so clear or this beautiful.

There are numerous activities for the entire family to enjoy at the lake, including hiking and mountain biking, as well as boating and fishing. The camp grounds are incredibly well maintained and most are free to use. There are also plenty of marinas and boat launches if you plan to bring your own boat, or you can always rent one while you are here.

We found the marinas and the lake management staff to be very friendly and helpful and we greatly enjoyed our time at this lake. It's very peaceful and even though there are no fish, the other wildlife are stunning. This is primarily a bird habitat, and you'll see so many different varieties here that we definitely recommend bringing a camera and a bird identification book. This is a great educational stop for the kids, or just a great getaway for the adults. It's definitely worth the trip and you'll have plenty of memories to last a lifetime.

Please note there are several other campgrounds in the area, ranging from free to fee-based. Please contact lake management for more information and locations.

Boating Restrictions:

You are free to bring your own boat, but you must have the proper licensing in order to operate it. There are several places to rent boats as well, but most places offer kayaks and canoes. The lake is really a quite place so we don't recommend bringing your big outboard motor boat here. They do have motor boat tours, but they do ask guests to keep as quiet as possible.

Fishing:

No fishing is allowed here.
