Clarity - This refers to how clear the water is, this is measured by how deep an item can be and still be visible from the water's surface.

Clearwater - This is a term that is used in order to describe a body of water like a river or lake with high clarity.

Cold Front - A type of weather front that can bring about a fast lowering of temperature and skies that are clear.

Coldwater Fishery - This is a term for waters that are located generally in higher areas and tend to be home mainly to trout.

Cosmic Clock - This is a term that covers the effect of the sun on the condition of the weather and water depending on the season. Mainly these effects pertain to the amount of clouds, barometric pressure and wind.

Cove - This is a feature of a shoreline where the body of water forms an indentation into the shore. This does not have to be a large formation as there are such things as “pocket coves” that can be as small as several feet from one side to the other.

Cover - Cover is any item that is located at the bottom of any body of water, and in fishing is generally used to refer to items that have an effect of the behavior of fish. Cover can be anything rocks, tree stumps, seaweed, tires, shipwrecks, and fallen trees.

Crank bait - This term covers a wide range of lures that are made of wood or hard plastic. When the lure is retrieved, (this is done by 'cranking' the reel, which gives the lure its name) it will dive through the water. The lures are known as cranks or just crank in fishing slang.

Crappies - This name for a popular type of game fish. There are two species of crappie, easily enough to remember they are white crappie and black crappie.

Crawfish - These creatures are also known as crawdads or crayfish. These are names for a variety of freshwater crustaceans that resemble very small lobsters. These can be used as bait or can play an important part in cooking, very famously in Cajun or Creole cuisine.

Creel Limit - This is the legal maximum number of fish that an angler is allowed to keep as determined by state fishing regulations. Make sure to check all the local rules and regulations before heading out as this number may change depending on which body of water you are fishing at.

Crick hopper - This is a brand name for a variety of lure. The Crick hopper is most often used to catch trout, and less often for fishing smallmouth bass. This is a lure made of plastic that is shaped like a grasshopper.

Culling - This refers to a way to retain the largest fish in a live well, or to stay within a tournament limit by taking out the smallest fish that are in the live well and releasing them into the water.
