Amenities: There are no amenities in the immediate area, and no camping is provided.

Rules: This is a multi use trail. Dogs are not permitted on this trial. The trail is open between sunrise and sunset all throughout the week.

Fees: There are no fees for parking or entrance to the trail.

Map: A good map for this region is the AAA San Francisco Bay Region map.

Accommodations: Roadside parking is available, and pit toilets can be found just inside of the park's entrance gate as well as numerous other locations along the length of the trail. Maps near the entrance offer information about the park. There is a pay phone and drinking fountains near the entrance, and more drinking fountains near the Jepson Laurel Area about halfway along the trail.

Public Transportation: There is no direct public transportation to the trailhead.

How to Get There: From San Mateo County's Interstate 280, take the Hayne Road and Black Mountain Road #36 exit. If you are approaching toward the north, you should be turning left when you reach the end of the ramp. Drive south for 1.3 miles on Skyline Boulevard and approach the trail entrance on the west side of the road.

Notes: This is a pretty straight forward walk on flat pavement. You should begin at the paved Sawyer Camp Trail and then continue on until you reach the Jepson Laurel Area. This is the turn around point at 3.5 miles, which is where you will turn around and begin to retrace your steps backward toward the trailhead. By the time you reach the roadside parking area once more, you will have completed the 7 mile walk. Along the way you may spot coyote remains and plenty of plants including Dogwood, cottonwood, ash and poison oak. Along the way you will also find the largest California bay tree in the entire state, which is believed to be more than 600 years old.

As soon as you are ready to return to the trailhead, all you have to do is turn around and trace your steps back to the beginning. Make sure to enjoy the sights as you go, because there is plenty for you to see along the way.
