Summary: This is a quarter mile flat loop hike that takes you along a tiny island dotted with oak trees. This is only a small preserve that offers a flat trail perimeter with another brief path climbing to a small hill.

Location: Marin County Hike of the Open Space Preserve at Santa Margarita

Distance: This loop hike is only 0.4 miles long.

Category and Difficulty: This is a very easy hike, based on the fact that the trail surfaces are flat and the hike is only 0.4 miles long.

Exposure: The exposure on this particular trail is about 50/50, with some shade and some sun as you go along.

Traffic: The traffic on this particular trail is light to moderate on most days.

Trail Surface: The trail surface here is completely flat, dirt trails.

Walk Time: The average walk time for this hike is less than one hour.

Season: This trail gets a little hot during the summer, but it is especially nice during the spring months.

Trailhead Coordinates: This trailhead can be found at 38° 0'30.32"N Latitude and 122°31'24.30"W Longitude.

Amenities: You can find stores, restaurants, gas and payphones when you travel back toward the US 101 on N. San Pedro. Unfortunately, there is no camping allowed at this trailhead.

Rules: Bicycles and dogs are not allowed on these trails. Horses are permitted on some of the trails, but it is not likely that you will be encountering equestrians on this particular trail.

Fees: There are no parking fees or entrance fees for this particular trailhead.

Map: A good map for getting to this region is the AAA San Francisco Bay Region map.

Accommodations: Parking is provided on the side of the road at the very edge of a residential zoned neighborhood. There are no drinking water provisions here, nor will you find designated handicapped parking, restrooms or maps. There is only a single trail here and it is flat, but generally not suited well to wheelchairs.

Public Transportation: The Golden Gate Transit Bus no. 34 does stop at the nearby N. San Pedro Rd., which is a short walking distance away from this trailhead.

How to Get There: What you are going to want to do is get on the US 101 while you are in Marin County, taking the exit at North San Pedro. Now you should drive eastbound on N. San Pedro Road for approximately one mile, then turn left upon reaching Meadow Drive. Now you should continue driving on Meadow drive for approximately 0.2 miles until you reach the roadside parking area which is near the very end of the street.
