That sounded pretty good and sure piqued our interest in this book. Bass fishing can be tricky, and it’s always great to pick up some new tips. We were actually pleasantly surprised by this book and the quality of the advice and information. If you are looking for a solid book that will help you improve your bass fishing success, this is the one to get.

The book starts out with a little introduction on Larry and his tactics, and goes over some of the best surefire methods of catching bass. It’s easy to read and the tips are very easy to implement. Larry’s got a great writing style that is engaging and informative without being too complicated. From the introduction, you get right into the tips on several different kinds of bass fishing.

First discussed are floating plant strategies as well as how to find bass under intense vegetation growths. Larry provides some great advice on how to get around these masses of foliage and still manage to catch fish and if you’ve ever struggled with this out on the lake, this section will truly come in handy.

The next few sections cover how to catch deep water bass, even when it’s cold, and this should definitely have an impact on how well you fish in winter. Strategies for handling clear water fishing are also discussed as well as how to catch bass when you in are in a very small lake.

Overall, we have not seen a bass fishing resource that is this comprehensive anywhere else. If you love bass fishing but haven’t managed to reach that point where you can consistently catch them, these tips should provide you with that little extra push that you need. The book is perfect for beginners or pros and even if you already know quite a lot about bass fishing, you should be able to pick up some new pointers.

We highly recommend this book to anyone interested in bass fishing and it would also make the perfect gift for any fisherman on your list. The second part of the book is meant for those who fish bass competitively, and offers some truly amazing tips at how to win these competitions and take home the trophy.

The latest edition also includes “Short Strikes” which are little tips like how to watch bird activity to find the big bass, as well as how to handle high temperatures. The little section on rigging for developmental waters was worth the cost of the book alone and offered some advice we have not found before. Overall, a great read and a truly terrific book on fishing. We really can’t say enough nice things about this book and would recommend it to all. You may like it so much it ends up being a permanent fixture in your boat.

In streams, wild trout generally find their food, their shelter and the right temperatures behind rocks as well as in or near currents and under banks or around logs. You should be moving quietly and casting from downstream as trout will generally be facing up current and they will have a blind spot downstream that you can use in order to approach until you are within easy casting range. Make sure that you are wearing Polaroid glasses so that you can see the trout before the trout happen to see you. Another good way for you to hide from the vision of the trout is to wear clothing that blends in well with the stream side foliage.

You should fish during the dawn hours in the summer months and fall months to find brown trout, which are often feeding during the night. Where the water temperatures are at the lower avoidance levels, you should be fishing in the afternoon because this is when the streams and the lakes are at their warmest point. The exception is going to be streams where the melting snow is muddying the water during the afternoon. These waters are going to best suit the bait fishermen that are doing their fishing during the morning hours. Instead, the best time for fly fishing throughout most of the year is going to be dusk.

Since the stream trout do not usually move far, the easy to reach fish in the more obvious spots are going to get skimmed off early on, and the heavily fished large pools are going to produce mostly trout that have been planted. Undercut banks, side channels and tiny slack water areas behind smaller rocks are going to attract a lot less attention. These are spots are going to hold fish that are best taken using small lures, bait or fly.

You should fish brushy banks and under cut banks from just upstream by slowly paying out a small plug, a spinner, a fly or a bait downstream. Here is a tip: Submerge the tip of your rod in order to avoid catching the line on any branches.

There are a number of lure and bait choices that are going to depend on the season and the depth, the temperature and the clarity of the water. Tiny spinners and medium sized spinners are excellent for shallow rivers and brooks. Spoons as well as small plugs are going to work in areas that are larger or deeper. If the streams are colder than 45 degrees Fahrenheit then you should be using bait. The same is true if the underwater visibility has shrunk down to less than 12 inches.

While the salmon eggs take spring or stocked fish, red worms are best for producing when the streams are currently off color. Natural baits are going to work well near their home water as well as in their home water. Prime natural baits include cased caddis, crayfish tails and hellgrammites.

Keep in mind: Hatchery trout are going to be different in comparison to wild fish, and they are most easily taken using bait or small lures in well known and easily accessible points. For example, you are never going to need to hide from hatchery trout because they naturally associate people with receiving food. Carry grave and toss it into the water, tricking the fish into think it is chow time and they will hit practically anything.
