Saltwater Fishing:

The Suisun bay has been relatively productive in terms of striped bass, but their numbers are still not where they should be. Once again this week, the fishing for Sturgeon continues to remain steady. At San Pablo Bay, the fishing is good for both striped bass and Halibut. There are definitely more halibut out there than striped bass, but you'll find both at Alcatraz and the Sisters to Angel Island.

Sharks and Rays are definitely plentiful around the Oyster Point Pier. Near the Swirl, Candlestick and Brisbane you will be able to find nice halibut numbers as well as far as the San Francisco Bay is concerned. At Pillar Point, the local trips going out to Pescadero are still returning with occasional limits. Most of the catch on the pier side has been primarily sardines.

The striped bass bite around Pacifica has slowed down some, especially out along the beaches. You can still find a decent number of small sardines here, but they are making up most of the pier catch right now. In Berkeley and Emeryville, the potluck boats seem to be bringing in approximately a single striper for each angler, give or take. The island boats are doing a little bit better, bringing in limits worth of cod along with a healthy collection of lings. The fishing for albacore continues to be less than ideal here.

Delta Fishing:

At Frank's Tract, the best bet for good bass results is going to be to drop shot in between 10 feet and 20 feet of water. You should be using a heavy weight in order to punch through all of the grass to get at the best catch. At Rio Vista, most of the catch is going to be made up of small striped bass again this week. There are plenty of catfish and mostly shakers. Along the San Joaquin side of things you will find occasional striped bass, but the fishing for black bass continues to slow considerably. Fishing has also been generally slow at Tracy, if you don't count the few catfish that have been pulled up by shore anglers. You will find the occasional striped bass here, there are plenty of panfish to be had, and you'll find black bass as well, albeit rarely.

Lake Fishing:

Quarry Lakes is having some decent trout fishing this week, but not since last week when Alex Carrillo from Union City three trout comprising a total of 11 lbs with the 5 pounder being the highlight of the weeks' catch. Fishing has certainly been fair, though not necessarily hot for both catfish and trout. At the San Pablo Reservoir, regular plants of catfish have been going on. The bass fishing is relatively fair this week, though catfish fishing is definitely doing better. The best spot for fishing this week continues to be Scow Canyon for most people.

At New Melones, the Kokanee fishing seems to be getting tougher. If you get out during daybreak, however, you should still be able to obtain limits. For cat fishing, the best time to go is at night. Bass fishing is still quite tough all around. At Los Vaqueros, there is a morning trout bite worth checking out, especially from the shore that goes north along the area's rock wall and from the South Cove. The bite is not exceptional, but it is one of the best options around right now. Stripers, bass and catfish are all relatively scarce this week.

Del Valle, especially along the dam, is spitting out striped bass that are generally between 3 lb and 5 lb. Trout fishing is rather hit or miss on the other hand. If you are looking for a strong catfish bite, the dam is generally good place to go. The most action that you are going to find in Lafayette is the catfish bite which you will find along the lake's south end. You should be using either chicken livers or night crawlers for the best results. 1,500 lb catfish plants have been going in fairly regularly.

At Davis, trolling continues to produce limits, and fly fishing is continuing to be productive. Shore fishing is equally as productive this week. The water temperatures are running at around 73 degrees, and the pressure has been light. Most of this week's rainbows have been between 11 inches and 13 inches, but you may find rainbows of up to 20 inches. The real key when it comes to trolling is to use 2.5 or 3 colors of line with a lead core, or to set a rigger down to a 12 foot to 16 foot depth.

The best area to troll is going to be the Honker boat ramp and in the direction of the island. Honk Cove's south point has definitely been producing this week, especially by the fly fishermen that come early and bring power bait and Kastmaster lures. There are only a small number of fly fishermen out on the lake, but fishing is still reported to be good especially for those that have small bead-head nymphs beneath an indicator, and with an indicator depth between 4 feet and 5 feet.

Contra Loma is offering decent numbers of crappie and catfish. The best place to go for both is Channel Point here in Contra Loma. In Clear Lake, heavy algae and hot weather have made the fishing for bass relatively difficult. The algae problem is reduced significantly when you travel further north in the lake, so make sure to jig or drop shot carefully. In Chabot you can fish for catfish using chicken liver or mackerel. The later that you go in the day, the better the results will generally be. Berryessa is offering productive Kokanee fishing in the narrows as well as the island, especially between 30 feet and 65 feet. Bass fishing and cat fishing have been slow.
