It's not every day that you have to explain how your boat managed to climb up onto the dock to say hello, but one family is trying their best not to laugh themselves to tears as they try to explain exactly that.

Yesterday morning, a local family was preparing for an outdoor outing with their dog and their family boat. With the motor running but the boat secured properly to the dock, Marsha and Jack Johnson did not think twice about making a final trip back to the parking lot to retrieve some equipment from the car.

Much to their chagrin, however, they were summoned back to the dock prematurely by a loud crash and a terrible creaking sound as their Osprey boat climbed up the side of the dock, pulling much of its infrastructure into the water with it. Jack and Marsha's two children promptly climbed from the boat, blaming the family pet for the mishap. If Fido had fingers to point, however, he would surely be attributing the false start to the children, Chris and Jessica who are 13 and 12 respectively.

Pointing fingers wasn't going to peel the boat off of the dock, nor was it going to pay for the damages to the public slip however. Much of the family's afternoon was spent dealing with the wreckage, and luckily nobody was harmed during the accident, not even the boat. By late afternoon, the Johnson family was still able to pull away from the dock with an in-tact boat and plans for an adventure on the horizon - But no more crashing!

The witnesses that were willing to come forward regarding the boating incident were unable to tell what exactly happened to cause the mishap, and the Johnson children certainly aren't talking. It might be simpler simply to continue blaming the dog, but he isn't talking either. Witnesses were able to snap a few shots of the boat sitting precariously atop the fallen dock. The children had already fled from the Osprey at this point, but their beloved family dog hung around to keep an eye on the aftermath.

No charges have been filed for this incident, and the Johnson family is showing cooperation to ensure that the dock is properly repaired before they return their boat to the slip. In the meantime, if anyone did manage to see what happened, let’s get Fido out of the "dog house" by putting the real dock-wreckers to justice.

The moral of this story is never to leave children of any age unattended in a boat, even if it is properly docked. Leaving a running boat unattended is what led to this mishap, and the family is fortunate that nobody was injured in the course of the accident. Boats are powerful machinery and need to be handled properly by persons of all ages.
