Green Valley Lake is located in: San Bernadino County

Phone: N/A

Is boating allowed?

Paddle boats, kayaks and canoes are allowed, but no motorized boats are permitted on the lake. Since this is more of a residential area and the lake is very quiet, the community prefers to restrict boating to non motorized only. The upside is that it is a lot easier to catch fish here.

Is there a boat launch?

No, due to the fact that only non-motorized boats are allowed on the lake. You can however launch from most places on the shore.

Is camping allowed?

Yes, there are numerous campsites around the lake, and they are all very well maintained. This is a very family-oriented area and you'll find plenty of places to camp to enjoy the weekend. The facilities are pretty bare minimum, but overall, it's a nice place to camp. You'll find five different spots around the lake, including:

Green Valley Lake Campground

Crab Flat Campground

Tent Peg Group Site Campground

North Shore - Lake Arrowhead

Dogwood Campground

Is fishing allowed?

Yes, fishing is allowed here and you can actually do very well. The lake is well stocked and because it is so quiet, it is much easier to catch fish. You'll easily be able to get your limit in a few hours.

What kind of fish can you expect to catch here?

The usual round up of crappie, bluegill, a few catfish and if you're lucky some great bass and trout.

Are there any regulations?

Beyond the non-motorized boat rule, normal fishing restrictions apply. You must have a valid California fishing license with you before fishing on the lake. Boats however can be operated without worrying about licenses and registration. If you don't have your own boat, you can rent one at the lake.

About the Lake:

This is a very family oriented lake, located right in the heart of a small community of about 800 people. It is right next to Big Bear lake, but you won't find any of the noise or rowdiness here. If you like to party while you boat, this is not the place to do it, but if you want to teach the kids about fishing, have some fun camping over the weekend, or enjoy a quiet afternoon, this is the ideal spot. We found everything to be very well maintained, the water was clean and the fishing was above par.

It may not be the most well known lake in the area, or the most trafficked, but this is definitely one of our favorites in the Southern California area. One of the area's best kept secrets, and let's hope that it stays that way.

What else can I do here?

In addition to camping, fishing and boating, this lake is located right next to a wilderness area, so there are plenty of opportunities for outdoor fun. Whether you enjoy hiking, mountain biking or rock climbing, you'll be able to do them all right here.

Fuel Dock: Yes, this marina offers fuel. They did not state what kind of fuel is available - please contact the marina management for more information.

Pumpout: Yes, this marina offers a pumpout service.

Services Available:

This is a full service marina that offers just about everything you could ever need. Visitors the lake appreciate the free mooring service and the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. There is a travelift on site if you require this service as well as other chandlery services. The marina also has several restaurants either on site or within easy walking distance and there is plenty here to keep the whole family busy. A supermarket is close by if you need to restock and everything you need is literally just a few steps away.

What You Need to Know:

If you don't feel like bringing your own boat, the marina does offer boat rentals at competitive rates. Everything from sailboats to small fishing boats are offered but please keep in mind that rentals shut down if the wind exceeds 10 knots. They also have some restrictions for rentals when small craft warnings are issued on the lake. It's a good idea to reserve a boat before you arrive to ensure that it will be available when you get there.

You can rent space year round, or by the season. Special rates may apply depending on the time of year. Please remember that this is a busy marina so you may need to get on the waiting list. Short term renters usually are able to get a slip on shorter notice than those who prefer to rent for the longer term.

The marina also offers a pick up and delivery service which is perfect if you don't like messing with your boat. There is a fee for this but it is reasonable. Please note that all of their rates do not include haulouts or launching fees.

Anderson: If you are planning on taking a boat out know that the launch ramp is low. You will be able to use it, but it may be a little difficult. Use reaction baits if you are trying to get some bass at the lake.

Berryessa: You are going to need to head to deep water points if you want to get bass. Know that they are lethargic, so you may not get the bite that you are hoping for. You are going to find trout closer to the surface of the lake, however.

Camanche: If you are looking for a good trout fishing location, head to Camanche. Both the south shore and the north shore have been getting plants each and every week. Use trollers if you want the quickest bite.

Chabot: The water is starting to finally clear, which is going to make trout fishing better in this location. Trout fishing will continue to be strong thanks to a plant of 750 pounds that was put into the lake last Tuesday. Head to Half Moon Bay and Indian Cove if you want the best bite at the lake. The conditions are actually going to be somewhat good for those looking to pick up fish.

Calero: The water levels at Calero are starting to rise, which is a good thing. Expect the bite to pick up over the next few weeks as these conditions improve.

Chesbro: If you want to pick up catfish you are going to want to head to this location. While other fish are not biting strong, catfish are being picked up somewhat regularly.

Del Valle: The narrows are providing an incredible trout bite. If you are trying to pick up trout you are going to want to use Rapalas and Power Bait. The marina is only open from 7 AM to 5 PM, with the park staying open until 6PM. Those interested in the area should know that a trout plant of nearly 1000 pounds went in over the last week.

Los Vaqueros: Those who have made it to this location have found that stripers are biting fairly well, especially for those using swimbaits. Peninsula cove is still providing people with a good black bass bite. If you are looking for trout, head to a different location, as this is not providing good trout bites over the last few weeks.

McAlpine: If you use power bait you are going to get a somewhat decent trout bite. The trout will continue to improve, as a plant should be going in within the next few days.

Monterey: Crab limits are going in, and boats are coming in with good amounts of sand dabs. If you are looking for Humboldt Squid you are not going to find it here, as they have been MIA.

Pacifica: The crab are hitting the pier, making them easier to catch for all. Use squid or mackerel if you are trying to catch some with snares.

Parkway: Use power bait, specifically rainbow, if you are going to try to pick up trout in the area. Head to the peninsula and the back cove if you want the strongest bite. Know that the lake is getting a consistent plant of 1,000 pound of trout per week, so trout will continue to improve in the lake.

Quarry Lakes: This has been one of the best locations for trout fishing in the entire region, with most people bringing in limits. Head to the peninsula if you want the best fishing possible. Over 2,000 pounds of trout have been planted over the last two weeks.

San Francisco: The sturgeon fishing has been somewhat slow at best in this location. The next week is expected to be decent, however, so you may want to head out here.

San Luis Reservoir: You are going to be able to pick up some decent stripers on the lake if you use jumbo minnows. Head to Portuguese Cove and the Trash Rack if you want the strongest bite in the lake. Check 12 is also a great location.

Suisun Bay: Those who are around Buoy #6 and those at the Mothball fleet are going to find some small sturgeon. This has been a difficult location with some success stories, especially near both Roe and Ryer Islands.

UVAS: The bass are starting to bite again and are starting to be picked up. If you want to pick up the catfish in the area, simply head to the Dam and use cutbaits.

Rivers and Deltas

Eel: Those who went to this location last weekend found that there was a strong steelhead bite. The people who use roe as their bait have been getting the best results. Conditions have completely rebounded and improved.

Mad: People are starting to pick up steelheads over 20 pounds in the area, a good sign for a location that needed improvement. This are has been packed over the last week.

Pittsburg: You will be able to find some sturgeon when looking to Chain Island and the PG&E Plant.

Rio Vista: The water in the area is cold and still features a lot of debris from the massive rains from the last few weeks. Do not head to this location, as those who have attempted the location have come back empty handed.

Sacramento: The trout bite in the Sacramento river has been strong. This river has also managed to improve and should be back to normal by the end of next week.

Lakes and Saltwater

Anderson: Anyone looking to pick up a good bass bite is going to want to use drop shots off of the main points of the lake. The north end deep ledges are also perfect for both drop shots and dart heading. Most are pulling in fish that come in around 2 pounds, if not smaller. Anyone looking for some crappie will simply need to look for balls of bait.

Berkeley: Those who are looking for strong crab should head to his area, as crab trips are bringing in limits on a regular basis.

Berryessa: The trout are moving closer to the surface of the water, making them somewhat easier to catch. There are going to be bait balls and the bass are going to be concentrated in these areas.

Camanche: Trout fishing has been nothing short of excellent in this area, with many pulling out limits on a regular basis. Most are coming in with limits from the North Shore area. If you want to get a strong bite you need to use some power bait in either the north shore or the south shore.

Chabot: Shore fishermen are going to find that they cannot pick up the trout in the area. If you are looking to grab a good trout bite you are going to want to head to Half Moon Bay and to the dam.

Calero: This location has been seeing some large bass, and a pretty high concentration of them. The deeper water off of the main points are going to bring better bites than the weed mats are. Use jigs in the channel to catch the attention of the bass in the area.

Chesbro: This location has been fairly weak over the last few weeks. Bass fishing has been the weakest of all of the fish in the lake. Most are finding more Bluegill than they are finding bass.

Clear: Bass bite has been weak in this location in this location as well, thanks to the change in the weather. Crappie fishing is starting to improve, making for some decent bites. Head to locations with deep water and rocks if you want to grab a good bite of anything, including the improving catfish bite.

Coyote: Boats are still not able to get in the water, so fishing is not as strong as it could be in this location. Those who are using crankbaits are finding some success on the shore.

Del Valle: Those who are looking for a solid location for trout fishing are going to want to check out Del Valle. Most are pulling in trout of 5-6 pounds in size. Head to the east side of the lake if you want the strongest bite.

Los Vaqueros: Trout fishing has been has been fairly decent over the last week or so because of a recent trout plant in the lake. Striped bass have also been biting on a fairly regular basis. Look for another trout plant within the next week.

McAlpine: Trout are biting on a somewhat regular basis because of the drop in temperature in both the water and the air. Head to the location in the early afternoon if you want to have the best catfish bite in the lake. Use mackerel for catfish and topwater plugs for bass fishing.

Parkway: This location features plenty of strong bites, especially catfish for those who are heading too the peninsula for fishing. Use Nightcrawlers to get the best results in this area. Trout fishing is going to start in about a week. There will be a 2,000 pound plant of trout after the 1,000 pound plant of catfish that went in over the last week.

Quarry Lakes: Those who are looking for trout fishing should know that this location has improved. If you want to find the best fishing, head to the Back of Horseshoe Lake, Fisherman’s Row, and Kioks Cove.

San Luis Reservoir: There is some water getting pulled in, which is helping to stir the bait in the area. Topwater lures are nearly guaranteed to pull in some good stripers. If you want to find some good small bass you are going to want to head to the forebay. The strongest location in the area continues to be Check 12, as well as the Twin Islands.

Shasta: Do not be taken aback by the near 40-feet visibility conditions in the clear water. You are going to be able to find some strong bass near the Pit Arm, where the water is not as clear as the other areas on the lake. Still a strong location for trout, as individuals are pulling in large fish and large numbers of fish.

UVAS: If you are looking for some bass, hit this location. The bass bite has been decent to those using crankbaits.

Deltas

Frank’s Tract: Fishing has been somewhat slow in this location, for both black bass and striped bass. The two locations that have been somewhat promising include the South End and the Wall by the Sugar Barge.

Pittsburg: Those looking for good sturgeon fishing are going to want to head to this location. Use Eel of Ghost Shrimp to get the best bite of the day.

Rio Vista: This has not been a strong location, as overgrown vegetation is keeping shore anglers from getting good locations.

Lakes and Saltwater

Anderson: Head to the rocky points at get around 35 feet deep if you are looking to catch bass. They are going to start to change into their fall pattern, meaning that earlier locations simply wont bring in a good catch. There are a lot of bass in the area, but many of them are small.

Berkeley: Rock cod limits were being pulled in on a regular basis over the weekend. Halibut are somewhat strong, with most pulling in two per line.

Berryessa: Bass biting is going to be relatively weak for a few weeks, picking back up in the course of a few weeks. Head to the offshore structure in the area if you are looking for the best fishing spot.

Camanche: Small bass are gong to be found near the north shore area of this location. If you are looking for trout, you are going to need to get around 35 feet deep, especially near the buoy line or the dam. Use Apex Lures if you are looking on pulling in some trout.

Capitola: Head to the locations that are outside the reefs if you are looking for some Rock Cod. Vermillion are going to be all over the place, perfect for those who are looking for the fish. Halibut is not as strong as many expect in the area.

Clear: Those who are looking for a strong bass bite are going to want to look elsewhere. Bass are not great in the area, but will come back strong over the next few weeks. The only success is being seen at the north part of the lake and the south part of the lake.

Coyote: If you are looking to get fish in the area, head out in the morning. Go top water with Jigs to find the best fish of the day.

Del Valle: Catfish bite has been pretty strong in the area, as has been striped bass. Those who are looking for a strong Trout fishing location should head to the area soon, as the lake is planning for multiple trout plants.

Emeryville: Limits of Rock Cod are managing to come in for those going out. Halibut is sought after, but few are picking up as many as they expect.

Lake San Antonio: Striper fishing is hit or miss in the area, as it is strong on some occasions and completely weak on others. Use swim baits to catch the best stripers in the area, with most pulling down stripers in between 6 pounds and 11 pounds.

Loch Lomond: The area is going to close on October 10th, and is only open until 6PM on weekends. Fishing is still strong in the area, with both bass and bluegill catching practically anywhere on the lake.

Los Vaqueros: Those looking for a strong bite will want to head to the area, as the latest trout bite proved to be successful. Still a relatively solid location for those looking to pull stripers and catfish from shore fishing.

McAlpine: Trout are starting to catch in the mornings now that the temperatures have started to cool down. Those who are looking for top water fishing are going to be able to pull in some bass, while those going deeper will find Catfish.

Monterey: Limits of Rock Cod are coming in on a regular basis, much like many of the other Saltwater locations.

Pardee: Those who are looking for Kokanee are out of luck, as the Kokanee season is finished. The location is still strong for a Trout bite of up to 5 pounds. Bass has been decent, especially for those who manage to get upriver by the Indian Head area. Catfish are also strong here, making this a solid fishing location.

Pillar Point: Some albacore are being caught in the area, but can be somewhat hit or miss. Rock Cod limits are coming on regularly, much like most of the other Saltwater locations.

Quarry Lakes: Catfish bite is somewhat strong in this particular area. Those who are looking for trout fishing are also going to find a strong bite.

San Luis Reservoir: Those who are looking to fish on the shore are out of luck, as boaters are managing to get a better bite. Small bass are found in the main area of the lake. Those who are looking for stripers will want to find the forebay.

Santa Margarita Lake: Those who have been looking for a good bass bite are going to want to look elsewhere. Bluegill has been pretty strong in the area, as has catfish. Head to the Cleaning Station of the area, the Launch Ramp (1st) and the Vaca Flats for a good catch.

UVAS: Head to the area toward the afternoon, or in the middle of the night, to find the best bass fishing at the lake. You will be able to find bass up to three pounds, with a few larger ones found to some of the luckier fishermen.

Deltas

Benica: Head to Dillons Point toward the Benicia State Park if you are looking for some Salmon. First street has also become a strong location for Salmon.

Pittsburg: Head to the firing line, as well as the middle ground, if you are looking for some stripers. Sturgeon are being found in the area as well, but Salmon are somewhat slow.

Rio Vista: The bass bite is starting to get a little stronger, still leaving something to be desired. Do not head to this area if you are looking for some Salmon.

Tracy: Head to the Grant Line Canal if you are sure that you want some striped bass.
